Hi everyone, I posted pictures of these pumps a couple of years ago, and today I finally started to take the first one apart. From my original post I know they are Gilbarco FMP pumps, which share pieces with the 96. I tell you, even with the breaking screws, bashed fingers and having to drill some broken bolts out, I had a blast. The pump and motor must weigh 80 pounds! It is still quite heavy even with the guts out of it, but much more manageable now. All of the sheet metal is actually in very good shape and quite solid. The top piece is the worst one. As can be seen, the clock mechanism and outlet hose are held in place by the pipe from the pump. I know that most of you guys take out the guts, but what do you do to keep these items in their original places? Do you make up brackets to mount them? I am going to need a new top piece for it as well, but the ones I have seen don't have the lip on the front and back edges. It doesn't look like it is a rigged up lip, there is no sign of a weld or anything. Is it possible that there was a separate top made for this pump? I could weld a new piece in I suppose, since it isn't too complex. (I may have answered my own question here lol) That's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure I'll have more questions. Here are the pictures. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas!

The top looks like a 96C, and those were prone to rust as you can see. As far as a bracket, you can probably braek down the pipe at the union. Then use a piece of angle iron, drilled out, to pick up two of the existing holes in the frame, then use a "U" bolt to hold it to the angle iron. You may have to install it on one side of the frame or the other, or possibly use a shim of some sort, to keep the pipe in the right place. It shouldnt be too much of a job.

Oh wow fuelish, it is their long lost cousin! lol. It is even an Esso too. You might be able to put a rounder top on it, it looks like you would only need the inside part of it to make it round and then the outer skin and doors. How cool!
Thunder, thankyou for the bracket idea. I think I should probably do that now while the doors are beat up instead of waiting till they are finished. I'd hate to scratch them trying to fit everything.
As another question, the hose outlet cover has a small hole with a screen over it, what is that? Also, I see there are tops made of plastic. Are there metal ones made too? I don't know why but plastic doesn't seem right to me, but if I have to use it then that's how it is.
Finally, it is barely visible, but the Esso logo out front also has "Imperial" above it and "Products" beneath it. Imperial Oil and Esso were pretty well interchangable in Ontario where I got the pumps before I moved down here. I haven't seen any stickers with this style of logo. Am I out of luck?
Thanks again.

The original top should be steel. That little screen is a breather. If you haven't read it yet, be sure to check out my pump restoration feature. It should give you just enough info, to get you into trouble. http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001409.html As far as Micks pump, I wonder how much it would take, to cut down 96B skins?

Hi turnipkiller2, I may have a good top that would interchange with your pump. It is a Gilbarco model 406? but it had a meter on the top. I am missing the front door and would part out I will get some pictures and post. Hi woodysr, thankyou for the pictures. I don't think that top will work it looks like the nozzle receiver (I think that's what it is the silver thing?) goes slightly into the top? The ones on my pumps are lower on the side. It is too bad that one looks like it is in good condition too.

Hi Dick,
Could you post the auction number, I've tried multiple searches and can't find it. (I did find a buy it now for one of the plastic ones.) Thanks very much, Eric.
