WOW, great can I wanted to ask a question, I have an excellent one EXACTLY the same and on the bottom it is also punched with the same tiangular design. I always thought it was a weird way of opening. But seeing your's is the same as mine. Maybe this some special "Associated/Tydol tool used to punch cans?

Nah, it's not. I've had cans like this. I usually put them on ebay for 99 cent auctions (just common ones). I hate when they are opened like that, although it doesn't really matter I guess eh. Sure doesn't for the can shown above!! That's an extremely nice can!

There is a special opener that does this. It was discussed here awhile back somebody found one. Just about every can you seen opened this way is Tydol/Veedol Cans. Have hardly ever seen any cans from other brands opened this way.

[& other GRASSHOPPERS],
VEEDOL/TYDOL wanted/required their cans to be UN-usable for refilling w/ a lesser grade oil & resold. By Destroying the bottom, anyone refilling them would have to Display cans TOP SIDE DOWN to keep from leaking [Weird Display], also as can was being drained into engine customer can see/read label.

Chris(cggas) mentioned that he had seen such a device in a swing can...

Here is a Canadian Veedol ad from 1933; Where the Attendant is placing a Veedol can in such a swing spout pour can...

I have been looking for such a pour can with this type of can opener; For a few years now...
