In your quest for petroliana it sure doesn't hurt to ask around.
On a whim I asked a local "old cat" station owner if he had anything laying around he might not need and might want to sell to help me decorate my remodeled garage. He told me he'd "look around."
I took that as a gentle no.
Fast forward one week and I pull in to fill up. He asks "You're that fella that asked me about the signs yeah?"
When I said yes he did an about face w/o a sound and headed back into his bays. Reappeared instantly with this sign with the back towards me. When he got close he flipped it around quickly. Had a look on his face like Santa right around Christmas. Said it was a dup he never hung and he found it moving a cabinet. eBay completed results seem to peg it at about $100 shipped. Been buying gas from him for 12 years so I'll call it a small refund.
Refused any offers for money.
