I learned of this a few hours ago and am still shocked. Can't believe it.

I never met Dick face to face, but have corresponded with him for years. If I ever had a question, I'd ask Dick and he would usually know the answer. Dick truly loved this hobby, not the money it could bring, but the objects themselves and the history of it all. Gonna miss you, DB.

Just read through all the comments and would like to echo what Bbburke said...

I'm glad to see even those that he didn't get along with had the decency to pay their respects. I respect that.

I didn't know DB, but always enjoyed his comments. All I can think as I've read all these comments is what an influential person he was! RIP DB, & condolences to all of his family and close friends.

Wow. I don't know what to say. The hobby has lost an icon and probably the most knowledgeable person on gas pumps there was. Dick and I always got along well and he will be greatly missed. Thanks DB for all you ever helped me with.

Thanks Dick for the time we shared, and your dry wit. Dick was not on this site to be liked, he was here to teach, and boy did he! He taught many of us about companies, pumps and how to think for ourselves,if you didn't he would make you wish you had!We all have to die,Dick just beat us to it! Rumor has it the Lord had a question or two about some old pumps and Dick got the call!
Our prayers go out to his wife and family, rest in peace Dick, your journey is just starting.

My first contact with Dick was 14 years ago. I always enjoyed his emails, personal messages, and phone conversations. Always top notch work on the cans I sent him to restore. I'll miss the empty water bottles, avocados and oranges he used to pack in the box with them. A founding father in this hobby has passed. RIP brother.
You will be missed. Tim Hansen
