Greyhound would be the cheapest...I have had good luck with them...if the auction house will not package the sign (or wrap in cardboard, etc...sign up for a USHIP.com acct and go that route...We've used them a lot before..

gents,

thank you all for your comments. Looks like Greyhound will work. Contacted a local gentleman that will package and bring to Greyhound for me.

Regards,

Phil

Just to let you know, Greyhound has size restrictions that, I think, will not let this one be shipped through them. I would give them a call and find out for sure what the allowable dimensions are for them.

I'm not trying to be rude, condescending or anything like that but just trying to give a heads up.
The only reason that they have those size restrictions is that it is the average size of the luggage compartments on the bottom of the bus. They might have a extra wide compartment on one bus but there is no guarantee that they will for every bus that it has to catch a ride on.
If your having someone else crate it up, you're at the mercy of their packaging skills and for them to deliver it to the Bus Depot for you. They might be really good at shipping smaller items but it takes a lot of experience to be able to crate these big puppies up so they are safe for the trip and tight enough to be small enough to ship through most shippers.
I would ask the auction company if they have a trusted shipping company and if they do, give them a call and work it out with them instead of the auction company because most auction companies are good at selling but not experienced in shipping.
Be patient and know that it will probably end up costing around $300 for the shipping.
Good Luck!

no offense taken. no rush to receive the package so it might take several buses to go by before they have room. sign is kind of rough so not super concerned about packaging, i.e. dont want to $300 to ship a $200 sign.

U-Ship works great!
I sold a huge 153 pound 4X5 coke sign on ebay for pick up only.
Then the guy bought it and tried to have someone ship it.
No Luck! Then he called to cancel sale and I offered to try for him.
So I used my Uship account again and it went to california for 350 smile Only took a 1 day listing and 2 days to get there! They charged me 24 dollars for the listing smile
I highly recommend U-Ship! You can name your own price or let them bid on the job!!! Good Luck!

Wish this would have been a week earlier; I just made that drive and would have brought it to you. Funny how things are in your own back yard (mine) and you never know about them...

Good luck!
