Hello everyone. I am finishing up a Wayne 60 in mobilgas andI would like to have red ad glass behind the stainless sunbursts but cannot find it anywhere.

Is there a supplier of ad glass that produces it in a solid color or do I need to paint clear glass? If paint is the option, what type of paint?

Thank you

What I have always done is used spray paint, BUT thats just me. You may want a really nice smooth look?

Was thinking of dusting paint on the backside of the glass. I am concerned about light shining though uniformly.

Yea sometimes thats a problem if the paint is not applied evenly. Usually I look for the "frosted glass" look so I lightly spray it until the color is achieved.

I spray painted my glass and it lasted about 15 years before the heat from the bulbs made the paint crack and peel some. I just need to take it out scrape it and re spray some day.

You can also go to a stain glass shop and pick up a piece of red glass and cut it to fit.

I have a Wayne 60s with a brass sunburst in it. I went to a glass specialty shop and had them cut a piece of Amber colored stained window glass to put behind the sunburst. Gives a great effect and will never fade. and there are several colors to choose from.

Hi Scott, a few options for you that I think would be easier:

1. Painting glass is really hard to do right. You can etch the glass, use speciality paints, but it's hard for it to look right lit, I wouldn't go that approach. Any dirt in the paint or defects will show too! It might peel later too!

2. You can use colored plexi-glass behind a sheet of clear glass if there is room. If not, you could use colored plastic Mylar sheet behind the glass too. I think colored Mylar would look really good behind glass. You could just use acrylic as well, some of that stuff looks like glass anyway, all this is available in small sheets via Amazon.

3. You can have a sign company cut you a few pieces of vinyl. Make sure to tell them it's a lit up application. Adhere the vinyl to a piece of glass and put another piece of clear glass on top of that. I've done this, looks good too.

4. A place that sells stained glass might have glass would work too. Most of stained glass is rippley but I've seen some straight stuff.

I would try to do #4 first, than maybe 2

As mentioned above. A stained glass shop will have any color you want.

Clear plexiglass, sprayed with orange and yellow on the back side. After that dries sprayed over with white. You can use a spray paint meant for plastic panel from an auto parts store.

I love that color scheme you have going. It pops nicely even though it's not done yet! Nice work.
