This one almost fooled me. Please beware. I believe this sign is a reproduction (note the circle R copyright, and the date of the sign. Texaco didn't start using the circle R copyright until after 1960)

Randy,

I know 59' was a transition year, and I'm but not trying to argumentative, but in 59' Sky Chief plates had no trademark symbols, and I believe Fire Chief signs still used the REG T.M.

Spray pattern looks off too. Compare the known original versus the one in question. Better condition one is known original.

REPORTED.

Sellers completed listings are indicative of a fraudster. They are chipped repro's & fantasy signs.

I don't typically email these guys, but I did tonight.

Here was my response.

Hello, thanks for your opinion.I did a little research on this. The R in the circle was authorized by the "Lanham Act" in 1946.There is a photo of a "Texaco Diesel Fuel 1" sign in Rick Pease's "A Tour With Texaco" on page 38.It has the R in the circle trademark and is dated 1948.Also there is a "Texaco Diesel Chief" sign on Ebay right now dated 1958 with the "REG TM" markings.Clearly 1956 was not a definite changing point for these markings. In addition I have never seen a reproduction of any of these signs in porcelain, although there are some aluminum ones with applied vinyl graphics.I am sure that your comment is well intentioned, and indeed, most porcelain signs used by Texaco in 1954 would have been marked "REG TM" ,but clearly there are some marked with the R in the circle.Thank You,

You should ask him about all the chipped up obliviously faked signs he's been selling? That should help him realize the kinda of POS he is. That seller has no credibility based on their completed listings.

I've seen faked Texaco PPP's for sale on e-Bay out of India.
