Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I can't speak to either of the vendors referenced above other than I have met them, and both seemed knowledgeable in their fields and very nice guys. I will also add that in most things in life "quality" and "cost in mind" do not belong together in the same sentence:) Good luck with your project.

I just did a project with Jim at T-ways and am working on another. He is professional, gets artwork to you in a few days and clearly notes what is involved in the project regarding costs. It took about a month from the time I asked him to start the art to the time they were in my hands.
I have used someone else to create some lenses for me and the cost was low, but it was essentially a decal on the back of a glass lense. Never again because it doesn't look right. I would only consider one of the two above sources.

Just curious, is everyone using printed translucent vinyl to create custom globe lenses? I'm assuming you need pretty good quantity to do something more like the original.

Paul, I have had that done with ad glass, I don't think you could make it look right on a globe. I have bought a lot of decals and globes from Jim and always had great service and a product.
Thanks, Phil _________________________________________________ Looking for any old pumps, or nice 5 gallon cans.

Scott at time Passages does a lot of 'one off' globes by applying a decal to a milk glass body and then using a clear lens mounted over it. It looks okay, but it will deteriorate over time.
Gas Pump Heaven is creating lenses digitally on a 'Polymer' substrate. (Think 'plastic'.) Again, I don't see the longevity of this process.
Mike Slama and myself create our lenses the same way they Were created originally. Silkscreened on the back of glass and then fired in a kiln to permanently adhere the frit to the glass substrate.
Our lenses will last (and look good) for as long as an original lens. And some of those in your collections are getting almost 100 years old!
Speaking for myself now, if you want a Quote on a project, send me digital reference of the EXACT image you want recreated - along with the quantity you require and the size you need. I'll generally get a Quote back to you within 24 hours.
Later . . .

Thanks for explaining the process, I've been curious about the different methods. I'm sure making a custom globe will eventually come up!
I've purchased a harley globe last year off ebay that someone just used vinyl to create, really was substandard but couldn't really tell until I recieved it.
