it seems the best way to accomplish this may be to find a cheap hanging ceiling lamp fixture of the same diameter 6"

I have had this globe hanging for close to 10 years. And yes tall (10') ceiling.
Uses a ceiling lamp holder like the one linked by Kevin.

All you need to do is add a lock nut on the set screw ,or a little thread locker .
