Hi, was looking for some input on this "OK" neon, I have never seen a sign flanged over the can like this but I am far from a sign expert. The insulator holes are not just a drilled hole so I am thinking this is the real deal. I would think that a fake would just have drilled holes, but the flange at the edge got me thinking.

Thanks Jeff

Looks right to me. The glass insulators are difficult to find currently. This sign is showing four. My opinion only. Paul www.severngaspumps.com

I wouldn't stress about the flanged edge, I've seen other neon porcelain signs with that. Looks legit but you never know, Ive never owned an OK sign to compare to.

Looks kinda modern to me. But I'm just guessing too, as I have never owned an OK sign. No makers ID that I can see ,either..

Let's get Ron from the Midwest in on this, he has much knowledge of these signs. Also what is the mounting situation, back, pole ?

Theres one on ebay right now if that's helpful, 121306744892. Quickly looking at it they look the same but I could be missing a detail. Apparently there are two rings of neon going around the border.

I've owned many ok neons over the years, and can say I've never had/seen one just like this. I can't figure out why the flange is so short? That would be hard to do unless they just rolled it over? I can say it looks "old" to me. I have never seen a reproduction sign where they put slots in the edge of the glass housing openings (old housings used these slots to keep the housing from rotating). Also, those glass housings that are somewhat rounded and flattened on top have not been made for a very long time. The tube supports also appear old and attached with old style slotted screws (easily duplicated though).

Just because the holes don't appear drilled doesn't mean its original though, as many repros have the holes in them before porcelain coating. The wide yellow border is different from a majority you see, but could have been a smaller manufacturer. Back in the day, local sign shops would design and send out for porcelain panels. I do not believe the can to be original. Since originals would be 55-70 years old now, and reproduction items were around in the 70's (40+ years ago?), anything is possible - but in my opinion it's old and original.

Legit IMO.

Unmarked is not unusual and if you look at the plethora of OKs the neon mounting varies widely on all of them. Possible it was part of a larger neon system too and not just a stand alone. Rolled edge isn't unseen in original neon either, just not as common.
