This months POTM will be the Wayne 50. The Wayne 50 was produced between 1935 thru 1938. There were two different versions of this pump. The 50 had an inside sight gauge and the showcase had rounded corners. The 50A had an exterior sight gauge and the corners of the showcase where more square. The head on the 50A was similar to the second version of the 40A. The overall dimensions without the globe is 19 1/2" X 33 1/2" X 83 1/2" tall.

Serial numbers for the 50 are:
1935 350-BBA to 15001-BBA
1936 1825-BDB to 25019-BDB
1937 25023-BDB to 45947-BDB
1937 40196-BDV to 50163-BDV
1938 52645-BDV to 65013-BDV

The breakdown will be for a 50A. The serial number on this particular pump is 3345-BAA. I'm guessing that it was produced in 1935.

The base is 19 1/2" X 33 1/2" X 3 3/4" tall.

These next pictures show the lower legs and the brackets that are used to connect the lower inside shelf and inside trim pieces. The lower legs are 53 9/16" long.

The next series of pictures show the lower panles. The side panels are 15 1/2" X 15" and have a vent. One side has a round inspection door. The front panels are 29 1/4" X 15" and have the T slot so the retainer key assemblies can be used.

These next series of pictures show the upper support bracket for the side with the door, and the lock assembly on the leg for the door. This lock assembly was not complete, the inside lock portion is missing. The hole for the lock is 1/2" and the lock tube extends out 1/2".

This set of pictures show the lower shelf. It is 16 3/4" X 30 1/2".

These pictures show the top of the show case portion. It is 18 1/4" X 32 3/8" X 1 3/4" tall. The alignment of all the parts of this pump is very critical. You must install the legs to the base then the lower shelf, leaving the bolts loose on the shelf. Next attach the lower panels. When they fit properly tighten the lower shelf. You then put the support bracket above the door on the legs. Next you will put the top of the showcase on. There are 1/16" rubber spacers that fit between the legs and the top. Do not tighten the screws yet. Next you need to put the door and show case windows in. Now you can add more spacer rubbers so as you tighten the top you have the correct spacing all the way around the shows case windows. Once the top is in place remove the windows and door.

The next step is to install the conduit that runs up the leg and the light assembly that attaches to the bottom side of the showcase top. These pictures show those parts.

The head can now be assembled. The upper set of pictures show the upper legs and key assembly. The upper legs are 20" long. The pictures below that show the step out side assembly for the head.

The top is 13" X 17 1/2" X 6" tall. In the middle picture you can see the hole where the sight glass attaches. This pump did not have a globe attached so a rounded globe hole protector was installe.

These next series of pictures show the nozzle receiver, nozzle fork, sight glass, and head light assembly.

The next set of pictures show the meter brackets, meter, and original faceplate. The meter and faceplate are the same ones that are used on the Wayne 40.

This picture shows the face bezel. It is also the same one as used on the 40

After all the parts to the head are installed we can now go back and finish up the show case portion. The next pictures show the top panel. It is 16 3/4" X 30 1/2".

The center support bracket is 3/4" chrome pipe, 35 1/2" long. It has two adjustable shelf brackets.

This picture shows the stainless steel corner bracket with clips, and the glass shelf. This corner bracket is 34 5/8" long. There are two sizes being re-popped by Ron Scobie a 34 5/8" and a 34 5/16".

These pictures show the doorframe, which is 15 1/4" X 37 3/8".

These pictures show the window frames. The side window is 15 1/4" X 37 3/8". the front and back windows are 29 3/4" X 37 3/8". The two screws pictured on the left are used on the windows. The screw on the left connects the window frame to the legs. It is 1/4 X 1/4 fine thread. I thought this round headed screw was original but it is not. The original screw are the same as used on the Wayne 60 to connect the face bezels to the legs. The screw on the right is original. They connect the glass frame to the window frame. They are a pan head 1/4 X 1/8 course thread.

This is the finished pump with a Bear Cat Globe. I used PPG DCC 4679 Flame Red, DCC 909966 Gold/Brown but changed the mix trying to match the decal, (one quart mix DMC900-604.7, 908-399.8, 925-114.8, and 929-37), and the shelves were DCC 27440 Beige.

Would Love to see any other 50's out there, if you need help posting send them to me and I will be glad to post for you. Richard

Craig, I was looking at this thread three knights ago and did not think about bringing it back. Good idea. I did not own a Wayne 50 when this thread was originally posted. Hopefully others will show off theirs. I know Tom has one he restored and Kevin is in the middle of restoring one.

The answer is real easy....

No one would do a Month, except the same Members. These Members were stuck doing the thread; Month after Month after Month with no help.... Some Members that had a specific pump relating to a Month, would participate... But, most Members would not....

IMO, it is the same reason Shawn is the only one doing the COTM. And has been for the last 6 months or so... Members like to look, but they want the other guy to do all the work...

When I did the expanded Tydol/Associated COTM... I noticed that more than a few Members, instead of participating in the thread and posting images of their items... Would instead post their images in the For Sale Forum.... They didn't/don't care about the site, instead their commitment is geared towards themselves and their only interest in Oldgas is..... What can Oldgas do for them, not what they can do to make the site better.....

Same reason that the same "handful" of Members answer the questions about "history" on the site....

Why do research on a Company(s).... Let someone else do the "hard work"....

Those that have joined Oldgas in the last 3-5 years have missed out on so much... Curt and his histories of the Buellton/ Santa Ynez/ Santa Barbara Area... And how the area became "Gas Station City" and then when the Interstate by passed the area.... It all changed....

Other threads from Members with decades of experience they were willing to share... But, too many "New Members" could care less about the history of the Company's or the history of the Hobby... Instead their interests laid and in the case of oh so many; still lay in what they can add to their pocketbooks.

So for many of the "longtime Hobbyists, Oldgas became a place they didn't understand anymore... It wasn't about the Hobby anymore or knowledge or sharing.... For the first time it was about "what is this worth"? So they left!
