Oldgas Makes the Local News!A few short months ago I saw a photograph that inspired me to look for historical photos of the service stations in Buellton, California. That search led to some interesting people and some interesting stories about the glory days of the service stations in the area. I decided to share the photos and the stories with my friends on Oldgas, because as fellow gas geeks, I imagined you would enjoy them as much as I have. Since I had gone to the trouble of writing the stories and collecting the pictures I wondered if there would be any other interest in seeing them. On a lark I sent off an email with some of my stories to the editor of the Valley Living section of the Santa Barbara News Press. We have a smaller local paper here, but I figured why not shoot for the stars and go after the big town paper. Here’s what I found in this mornings paper. I knew that they were going to publish the story, but I had not idea it was going to be the cover piece. It's actually going to be an ongoing column published every other week. I sent them a picture of some young guy instead of myself just so I wouldn't have to deal with the teems of swarming fans in town. The side bar story on the second page has a blurb on "What is Petroliana?". Naturally I told them about the best website for gas geeks. I know that I'm breaking my arm patting my own back, but in all sincerity, if it wasn't for this site and the support and encouragement of the people that read these stories first I would never have submitted them to the local paper. The truth is, that without this site I would never have had the interest to write them in the first place. That means that it's a compliment to all of us and especially Jim Potts for putting us online together. Gas Geeks of the World Unite! We made the news!

Big LEAGUER now ! JACKPOT ! Even car dealerships can't afford FRONT PAGE advertising, and you get it for FREE !
I'll bet your email will be full of "Please come an get this STUFF out of my garage. Been wanting to get rid of it, but didn't know how". Gilmore, Polly, Seaside, General, Sunset, Hancock, Mohawk, Union, etc. etc. Cans, Por. signs, painted signs, Globes etc. etc. Better start building a new garage.

Congrats! You deserve it. Your stories are really great. I often still think about the fella that went in to work on those wheels on Sunday afternoon and got hurt so bad. Your writing style is super. Thanks!
