I'm always out looking for stuff and had followed up on a lead from a retired worker at a local Bulk Plant. He told me about an old sign post that was mostly buried in the woods on a hillside out behind the plant. I talked with the owners and they were very nice and said I could have the old post if I could dig it out. I went and looked and it had to have been there for 50 years or more. It was in a very bad place to get to, trees had grown up locking it in where it was at and the top was buried under about a foot of dirt, roots, and rocks. My wife and I went back today and started the excavation and the whole time I was thinking that it might turn out to be just a good pole. I had hoped though that for some reason the old sign would still be there. I had dug for about an hour to get down to the ring and man it was some tough digging, the roots were horrible making it a very slow go. I hit something and carefully uncovered it and it appeared to be an old fiberglass sign. I lost all hope at that point on the original porcelain to be there. Another hour and we had it broke free from the earth. We could see that the fiberglass was a 76 insert. I took my shovel and pried up on the ring and got my fingers under it and lifted it up on its side. My wife said oh my gosh there's the real sign. I was shocked to see the old original Pure sign still there and in good shape. I don't usually get this lucky. God was shining down on us today. We also were blessed that a total stranger working close by called his whole crew down and loaded it on the trailer for us in seconds. He said I noticed you guys were working aweful hard and I knew you couldn't load it by yourself. Nice people are still out there. Hope you guys enjoyed this and the stuff is still out there but you gotta DIG for it!

Thanks,
Mike

I am not sure which is the best part, the sign or that SWEET pole. I would guess the pole dates from the 30's. Keep you eye out for other 76 signs a friend of mine from down your way has tons of 76 signs withe pure found in the middle.

THAT PURE LOGO WAS USED FROM 1954 TO 1970 AND AGAIN FROM 1992 TO THE PRESENT. THE POLE OBVIOUSLY LOOKS DECADES OLDER THAN THE 50'S THOUGH. SHOW SOME PICS WHEN YOU ACID SCRUB THAT PUPPY UP! LOL!!

I looked at some pics. and just noticed that sign doesn't have " Be Sure With Pure" wrote on it. Oh well, not quite as old but can't argue with the price. Now where in the world am I gonna find the correct light shades for it and does any one have any or good pics of them up close?

Thanks,
Mike
