Factoidal Tidbit #1

One of the most spectacular and costly fires in the history of the Petroleum industry happened on April 7th 1926 when lightening struck Union owned San Luis Obispo tank farm. This great tragedy spurred Union to build specialized fire Schools to train the latest technics for haulting oil blazes.

Lower portion has an oil dipstick chart decal for cars of the time [HUDSON, FRAZER, KAISER + all of the regulars].

There are at least 2 more UNION decals UNDER the one on top.

Factoid tidbit #2

Union Oil Had Marketing ties to space exploration that proved evident with their launch of the 76/Unocal satellite (commonly referred to as the antenna ball). They supplied Lubricating oils and greases to Seattles Space needles rotating restaurant that was unveiled at the 1962 worlds fair. In 1962 the First 76 Sphere appeared as an illuminated sign high atop a union sponsored amusement ride called the skyride which was extremely popular with patrons because of the numerous free tickets Union handed out.
