Here is part two of our trip starting near Desert Hot springs this long abandoned gas station. Next we headed up route I-15 the old route 66 at the summit of Cajon pass is this cool diner. The owner is a collector and I had a chance to talk to him. Most of the signs in the following pictures are originals. ------------------ Ted & Pam Roach Lodi CA. pca-west.org vintage-logos

I've been past that Summit Inn at least a hundred times. Too bad I hadn't been bitten by the bug yet...

Nothing like a Keyhole Frontier hanging on your Cafe. Inside a Mickey Mouse original by a Hood tire sign. Signal is a repop but Shell is good. ------------------ Ted & Pam Roach Lodi CA. pca-west.org vintage-logos

Another Mickey sign. A real route 66 shield. Last a nice Tokheim 39 in Signal with a rare Signal sign beside. French Dip was good also. Ted ------------------ Ted & Pam Roach Lodi CA. pca-west.org vintage-logos

Next we continued up the old route 66 to Barstow. Another long gone gas station. Next a sotp in Barstow at Tom's welding and signs. He took these signs down years ago and just hung on to them and now they are displayed along the old highway 58. Some you can buy but he is well aware of the premium price they fetch. ------------------ Ted & Pam Roach Lodi CA. pca-west.org vintage-logos

If anyone visits Tom's Welding in Barstow be careful. This guy has spent way too much time out in the hot sun. Very grouchy, irritable and leery of drop ins. He has quite a few reproduction signs and clocks that he tries to pass off as real. He was very rude to us and I had to bite my tongue just to make it thru the place.

I guess I was lucky he was talking to two other guys. I just saw his wife and she was about as friendly as a desert rattle snake so I just kept shooting the pics. I didn't see any clocks. Which signs were repops??? Ted ------------------ Ted & Pam Roach Lodi CA. pca-west.org vintage-logos

Great job, Ted!!
"Premium prices"?? I stopped in there in the late 1990's when Hwy 58 used to pass by his shop. He was asking more like rip-off prices at that time!! I don't believe he really wants to sell anything. It's a nice place to visit but forget about buying.
