There is a monument of Lincoln between Cheyenne, and Laramie in Wyoming. The Lincoln Hiway was Hiway 30, which still exists in some places. Where the monument is the highest point on Interstate 80 which runs where Hiway 30 did in lots of places. Might contact the Wyoming Highway dept. They have a web site

The Lincoln Hiway at one time went from coast to coast , in California its now called hiway 50 from San francisco to Lake Tahoo , but that was before the state finished hiway 80 , so hiway 80 now runs from coast to coast . it was named after Lincoln Nebraska ,that was the main wagon train route from the east to the west .

Yes, the Lincoln Highway was built soon after WWI as the major east-West link. I believe Gen Pershing had some influence there. It is still in heavy use across northern Illinois and into Iowa as U.S. 30, crossing the river (Mississippi) at Clinton. Iowa. 1924 sticks in my mind as a year that much of it in Ill. had been paved.

And no, it was named in honor of our own Illinois boy, Abraham Lincoln. And yes, original signs are harder to find than a Pollygas globe...

Somebody should get out one of their old maps and you could see exactly where highway 30 went. I've seen that statue in Wyoming of Lincoln and it tells quite a story about what went on. Iv'e seen the signs also but they do cost a lot. By the way Dwaine highway 50 still goes coast to coast and starts in Sacramento and ends in Ocean city Maryland. I guess if you count Sacramento as the coast. Ha. Ha. Could be with a big enough quake.

I was visiting a fellow in Cheyenne Wy. at Xmas and he had a sign and a couple of old concrete highway markers with brass medallions set into them with the linclon highway logo. They were even neater than the sign I thought. Frankie..... I was by your house on the 2nd of Feb but you were not home, was hoping to get the tour but...... Maybe next time im going through, Les

Interesting topic. The concret markers were placed every mile by Boy Scouts, if my memory serves me right. Don't remember the date, but there is a Lincoln Highway association or website. I think I saw references to it in an AAA magazine last year.

Here is the Web site:
Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor
http://www.lhhc.org/

I couldn't believe my eyes when I visited the site. They are bringing out a Lincoln Highway Pump Parade consisting of 23 specially reproduced and artfully decorated vintage gas pumps to be displayed along the historic highway in Pennsylvania this year for the 90th anniversary of the highway.

Search Google for "lincoln highway history" for even more links.
