During my searches for historical photos I've come across several bulk trucks, tanks cars and service vehicles. Thought you might like to see them for your weekend viewing pleasure. Feel free to bulk up my post with you tankers! Young Mendenhall learning to drive the service car. Caught you filling up at the Associated plant, hmmmmm? Here are some signs I'd love to get for my collection.

Looks like somebody took a little liberty with the front fenders on that '39 Ford Standard sedan. Poorman, nice job as always!

Taken at the SUNSET BULK PLANT in Ventura, Ca. Lic. plate is 1939. NOTICE the Cab sign & SUNSET flags. Painted tin sign on roof was still there 4 yrs. ago [laying on back side of roof]. db

That's the "push" bumper modification for pushing the dead cars off the highway. Saw an early Dodge service truck with a 2 x 12 wood front bumper. Mounted old tire treads on top of that for some cushion. Here's a shiny Gilmore tanker

Wonderful pictures, Curt. However, on this run Dick Bennett gets "Best of Show!!" Imagine how colorful that Sunset tanker was? The yellow probably glowed like the morning sun. There is nothing on today's highways that exudes STYLE and CLASS like that truck. I would enjoy paying $3.00 a gallon for gas from that truck. Thanks guys

Now Al, you have to admit that you are partial to Sunset. I'd would love to see that Sunset truck in living color too. No doubt is was a beauty. Here's another glance at a Gilmore.

Curt, You're right I'm biased. I'll admit those Gilmore tankers you posted are snazzy. You think the letters on the tanker side are chrome plated? Imagine that in the bright sun. I am surprised to see that there is gravel in front of the pumps in the second Gilmore picture...seems "out of character" for a Gilmore operation. I'm waiting for one of the high-end boys to bring one of these big rigs to a gas bash.

Wow Wee!! DB is the Ted Turner of petroliana classics. The color sure livens up the pictures. Imagine what Dick could do with one of those old photos of a gaggle of visible pumps filled with VIOLET RAY. It would be sublime!

Since were moving into color I better post this Richfield tanker. This came colorized already to save Dick some work from the Richfield spec manual.

Looking for ideas on what color this may have been. Early 1930's. Ohio Oil's red and white or Transcontinental Oil's Orange, Cream and Green? Chuck

I think that's Prof. Bennett leaning on the back of the tank; remember, "No Smoking" around gasolene.... Dick is so old that he can remember when gas was spelled that way!! LMBFWAO!!!!!!!

Getting ready to roll out the Bel Air and visit the last four gas stations in Solvang soon. In the meantime we need some service trucks to go with our tankers.

Thanks for posting all those wonderful tankers, Curt. And thanks to Dick for turning the General Petroleum truck into a giant piece of eye candy. Very tasty! This is great stuff.
