A couple of guys brought some old GOTM topics back to the top so I thought I'd give GOTM another shot. If there is enough participation we might revive GOTM and bring it back as a regular feature. It all depends on the amount of interest.

This month we'll feature globes that we've added to our collections in 2006. This is for globes you've added to your collection only.

I'll start off with the first globe I bought this year. I got this globe from Rex the night before his auction. Its not much to look at but its very rare. Its from Standard of Kentucky and is one of only two known Super Crown Extra globes with this color combination.

Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros.

I bought these three at Rex's auction.

This Western globe displays nicely with my Mileage globe of the same design. Now I need to find the DS (Direct Service) version.

I went to the auction to buy this globe. That can be a dangerous (expensive) mindset to have when attending an auction.

I bought this globe at an auction in February. I had been trying to buy one of these for 13 years.

I picked up a couple globes this year sort of by accident. I bought my first pump and decided I also needed my first glass bodied globe at the same time. I got them a couple days before the Iowa gas show. Nothing real rare but it does have the dark green outer circle instead of the newer lighter green color.

The second globe I got at Iowa Gas. I had a duplicate sign that was in my collection untill I upgraded to a better one. Had the first one at a few shows, was tired of dragging it around so I traded it.

This globe came from my good friend Bill Fortune.

This came from a lady that i have gotten to know over the last year or two. I bought some sinclair lenses from her a year or so back.

I picked this one up in Columbus. It has some condition problems but I think I got a very good deal on it.

This Gasmart globe displays great with a Gas-a-mat globe I already had. Now I need to find the Gaseteria version.

Another one for my oval collection.

Sometimes it pat pays to be patient (cheap). I had hoped to buy Rex's Tresler Comet globe but it went for more than I wanted to pay. I was able to buy this one for much less.

Although this (Ford) Benzol globe has condition problems I was happy to get it.

This one is unusual. It has a cast milk glass face.

I got this globe from a fellow oldgasser.

Thats it for me. I picked up a couple other globes for resale but thats not what this topic is about. I was able to get some globes I've wanted for a very long time, and I got some that I didn't know I wanted until I saw them. Some common, some rare. Some plain, some graphic. Best part for me was the time spent with friends while persuing these globes.

I know theres more globe collectors out there. Show us what you added to your collections this year. Doesn't matter if they are common or rare, one or fifty. We'd like to see them.

YEA GLOBES!!! Here are my 2006 additions. The Vickers and Chevron came from an auction in Nebraska. The other 4 were all bought at Iowa Gas. The Coryell is my favorite. I’ve been wanting one and was lucky to find it in Iowa. Finding it made the whole trip.

Thanks for sharing Chris. Thats a cool Vickers globe. Don't see that version often. That Coryell globe has to be as scarce as hens teeth.
Very nice!

Wasn't that a Coryell station in that old photo of the visible painted to look like an ear of corn? They were selling "corn alcohol" gas...

Here's some of the globes 'The Keeper and I picked up this year.

Let start with a globe Jodi got. This is a wide-body, screw-base Gill.

This is my Elreco Ethyl globe. It's a narrow-body, screw-base Gill.

Now here's my single Red Pepper Ethyl lens on a new 15" metal body.

I bought this one at Ohio Gas.

This is only a single lens too.

More to come . . .

Here's the rest . . .

I got this original Gill body globe at Columbus.

Here's a real nice Supertest Ethyl globe on a new body. There is just a bit of discoloration at the bottom the the lenses - but the rest of the image is great.

Here's a globe that Jodi won at the Fall Peotone auction.

And one I got at the same auction.

That's pretty much it for us in 2006.

Later . . .

Ok, it turns out that 80% of my globe collection (all but 1) was purchased this calendar year... Amazing how globe collection growth seems to be exponential at first...

Here's the Phillips sheild from a local auction house...

And, I got this one from Jarvis before he had a chance to break it...

This Gulf 12.5" came from a booth at a festival...

And this one from Tom Buckles at Peotone. Actually, it's Tara's

Have a good one!

Great globes guys!

Here are a couple of our new additions from the past year.

Like Bob, we like oval globes too and were quite happy to get this Payless Kerosene at the fall Peotone auction, even if the back lens did get broken in transit before the auction. As you can see the globe is still shrinked wrapped like it was on auction day.

We had a regular "Eagle" for years, but sold it and this was the first Royal Eagle we'd seen in years so it followed my Dad home from Aumann's Kansas City auction a few weeks ago. It will get cleaned up and put on an original red body before too long.

I have always thought the Tennessee Coop globes were cool and when I had the chance to get this one in Iowa I jumped at the opportunity because they are so tough to find. It has a little edge wear but it still displays really nice.

Here are two more globes we picked up this year. The white Power To Pass keyhole has some damage but is actually different than the one we had that I posted in the Dixie Company of the Month. That one has black lettering on the lower part of the globe, this one has blue. The Benzol is a duplicate, but fits in nicely with the other keyholes.

2006 was a memorable year for me to say the least. You might have seen a couple of these on COTM:

East coast Shell from Peotone auction

Precious Roxana Shell globe from collector in Ohio

Signal lens from Ebay

Richfield Ethyl from Castelli auction

Flying A 15" lenses from Ebay split into two single lens globes

Apologies to all the repo fans, but it's a nice feeling to replace a repo lens with the real thing, from Ebay

That's enough for now!

A couple more globes from 2006.

This Rock Island Ethyl is pretty cool, the background is actually a light grey when lit up and is on an original blue CAPCO body.

Congratulations on your first globe, Dave! Those Skychief globes light up great and the condition of yours seems to be near perfect. Just to warn you, once you get that first globe, more seem to follow you home!

Aaron

Here are a couple one piece etched globes we picked up this year, we dont do much with the one piece stuff but both are cool globes. The Aircraft has some base damage, but it is not noticeable in the globe ring.

I would guess over 1000 globes sold this year alone. Is this the biggest year for globes being sold? I know a few people have said globes have been a little soft this year and you could say that all these globes being offered for sale you can see why they might have been a little soft. Still goes to show you that even with that many being sold there were still plenty of buyers all year.
Keep posting your new additions to the collection for 2006!
