Hey Guys & Gals,

It's time to share the petro relics that we've stumbled across in our recent travels, and check out what other people have found as well.

If you would like to contribute to this feature, simply post the pictures here or email them directly to me and I will post them for you. Be sure to include a story or description with your submissions.

If it's too close to the next installment, please note that I may hold your contribution for posting when the new FATW comes up.
Send 'em in!!

Happy Trails!

Wes

When we were up for Peotone, Tara and i went driving around with Bob (Lastgas15) to look at stations. A few of them were the ones I posted last month, but here are a few more:

This is a simple little station in Kankakee, IL. It was probably a lot neater before it was sided over.

Right across the street, though, sits this nice old station. I'm guessing it might have been a DX.

Up the road a little bit is this interesting station. Bob said it used to be a Phillips 66.

I really like the tan glazed ceramic tile on this station in central Illinois. I wonder if it was a D-X, from the tile color and layout?

We were surprised to see this Chevrolet dealership neon on the side of a relatively new building in Wisconsin over Thanksgiving.

On our way to visit Mick (oldnfuelish) and Steven (youngnfuelish), we happened across these two old stations sitting side by side on IL 173.

That's all I've got for now. Let's see some of the cool things you guys saw while traveling over Thanksgiving!

This old Mobil sign stands outside a bar in mid-Michigan. In addition to this sign there are both left- and right-facing Mobil pegasus signs on the front of the building that I wasn't able to get pictures of.

I don't know what the story is behind the Mobil stuff, but the name of the bar is the Red Horse so maybe they just liked the pegasus image

OK, I can't delete the screw up that used to be here but I can totally change it. Folks, if you're afraid of learning to post, get over it. It has taken me all of an hour to figure out enough to get in and out of trouble. Off the topic, but here's where I hang out. Where that Dixie sign is used to be a battered Billups pump plate that went to Cheese Heaven for a religious experience.

Southland is one of my interests. I was taken aback when I passed what looked to be a Southland distributor-i thought they were extinct. Was depressed when I realized I'll probably never have this globe. East Central MS.

This is so far back in the woods two cars literally cannot pass on the road-one must stop. The elderly lady just locked the doors in the 1980's. Southeast MS

Old sharecropper's shack in the MS Delta. As the saying the more things change, the more they stay the same goes, the current generation lives in ragged out trailers instead of shotgun shacks.

This guy is probably like the rest of us; just loves this stuff and to display it and share with others. He just took a different approach-minimal and unpretentious-which blends in well with the geographic elements of the desert. I like it!

Contrived display or not, those are beautiful pics!

Here's a small "domestic style" station located in my hometown. There was article in the local paper a few years ago about a preservationist group trying to save it from demolition. Looks like they must have succeeded, because it's still there!

Great pictures, guys! Keep it up!

We ran across this neat old general store today, abandoned in a tiny town.

Wayne 615 has been taken apart for an amateur restoration, as half of the cyl rods are missing...

Belzoni, MS yesterday. All three are of the same station. Judging from the picture of the side, it could have been Cities Service with the front added on later.

I know that this Conoco station has been posted here before but it's still one of my favorites. Every time I go through Shamrock, Texas I stop and take a picture. One of these times it may actually be open. I'd love to see the inside !

Mark;
Is the photo below the Winslow at Mt Gayler?
I wondered what that looked like today.

Here is an old post card of that, we had fun with last year here on Old Gas. There are two other post cards from different era's of that station out there also.

I love this feature topic! Thanks to all who go out of their way to take photos and post them here.

I pick one picture each month to use on the Oldgas.com Printable Calendar . I just got done with an updated archive of all the pictures we've used on the calendar over the years. Check out the Calendar Archive .

LOVE that Diamond Reo sign! I would kill to have that for my dad, he's restoring a 1970 Diamond Reo right now.

Great photos everyone!

Anybody ever check out photos on Flickr?

Lots of old station photos, sets/groups there.
