It's a thought but I don't want to drive 260 miles one way to pick it up. Check the home page for pumps, lots of them and not much money....

LAST MINUTE BIDDING TOOK THIS UP TO $476!

MICK, TOOK A LOOK AT THIS PUMP ON THE HOME PAGE.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220193766040

IT'S AT $80 WITH NO RESERVE, YET THE SELLER SAYS HE WON'T TAKE ANYTHING LESS THAN $200 FOR IT. EXCUSE ME, BUT IT GOES FOR WHAT IT GOES FOR WITHOUT A RESERVE.
HOW CAN HE REFUSE TO SELL IT IF IT ONLY GOES TO $80 FOR EXAMPLE. HE HAS TO TAKE A HIT DOESN'T HE?

I have an ebay question. What is the difference if a seller sets a reserve of $500 and a starting bid of $500?

If you listed an item with an opening bid of $500 you would pay an insertion fee of $4.80. If you listed it for an opening bid of $.99 and a reserve of $500 you would pay an insertion fee of $2.20. Final value fee would be the same either way if it sold for over $500. If it sold for less than $500 you would not pay a final value fee either way and you'd still have your item. If you listed an item with an opening bid of .99 and then had a buddy bid it up to $500 you could end up paying .20 to list it but up to $15.44 in final value fees and still have the item unsold. It has always made the most sense to me to list low with a reserve. Shill bidding or what ever it is called never has made much sense to me.

If the reserve price is met, that fee is returned to the seller ! You would pay a listing fee for the amount you started at, and a selling fee for $500.00 or more... If the reserve is not met, you lose listing and reserve fees, unless you relist again and the reserve is met the second time around, that would be returned to you.

VS

A listing fee of $500.00 + a selling fee of $500.00 or more. If it doesn't sell, you lose listing fees. That money will go for the fuel on the yachts, they ALL own.

Hmmmm....the bidder and the seller BOTH have no completed transactions under their belt. And...by the way, the bidder just happened to join ebay three days after the seller did. What a coincidence.
