Is this sign real or repo. I don't want to get hammered like I did before, so someone let me know if this sign is real or not. I am not sure on Jenney stuff.

I don't know much about Jenney signs but, the rusty back screams "stay away....probably from Argentina". Plus if the sign were real he could start the auction at $.99 and it would bring what it's worth. I don't think it's worth $1000.00. JMHO

I was going to email John O'Hern about this one. Hopefully he'll give his opinion here on oldgas. I can't tell by the photos.

Roger, There is a sign in Encyclopedia of Petroliana by Mark Anderton. IF that sign in the book is authenic, these two signs don't match. The book shows 4 mounting holes compared to 3 on the sign in question. The bottom 2 are also in different positions with the pictured "original" having bottom holes slightly lower down the sign then the one for sale.

When in doubt....I think I would pass on this one.

Looking through my books I found a photo of this sign and it also had four mounting holes. (Not the Anderton book). I also found two photos of the Jenney factory scene sign and they also had the four hole mounting pattern. I would also be suspicious.

Apparently, alot of people think the sign is not right, look at the revised description the seller put on the auciton.

He say's the price guides are all showing fakes. Apparently he's got the only real one. That's how rare it is.

I figured i would help out with this piece seeing as though its mine and iam selling it. first again i have owned the sign for 30+ years before that it was still in my family whom we grew up in Southie and real quick i received an email from another ebay user from Boston area like myself this morning and has the same exact sign 3 holes and is a very old man and has owned the sign for a long time. bottom line Argentina?? argentina exports drugs not signs. the ebay user selling signs from argentina whom switched to mexico, now those are not from that country the user is just set up there to avoid any american laws but those signs are made in the USA I have gone to boston public library spent hours researching jenney and also saw many black and white pictures with the sign at gas stations mounted on pumps trucks and even a worker making a sign, i dont know what sign was being made but jenney made signs for other companies but the bottom line you cant tell how many mounting holes it had in picture I dont think over atleast 30 years ago they cared enough about us gas collectors to make a jenney sign and again i have sold many many signs and a few early early signs that were no question fully authentic didnt have porcelain on the back and suprisingly were rusted go figure. but iam the same way always weary of what i personally buy for myself and thats the best way to be if you have a doubt dont buy it but be careful because somebody like me will come along already owning the piece knowing that its a rare authentic piece and buy it. And iam telling you guys from experience that any very rare signs in books are repros. I own and have owned several rare oilzum signs i now live right outside of worcester ma and in most of the guides they dont even have my signs that i know are real they came from the factory or old employees. thanks for the interest though guys and good luck with your hunting. ONE more thing do a search for a reproduction 12" Jenney gas sign anywhere and see what you come up with --nothing-- 12" repros dont exist

this is to globesandsigns.com your a businessman insulting people in a public forum very bad business practice my fellow collector or salesman, its a shame that your going to represent your business to the public by insulting people you know nothing about and to tell me that all the price guides have every sign made and all the guides just happen to have pictures of every rare sign, seems you have alot to learn about antiques and business and i will be sure to be spreading the word in the new england area that you are a totally unprofessional disrespectful salesman business owner. and one thing you guys dont seem to understand this sign is extremely rare i have been to every major antique show and have a beautiful private collection of 1000's of all different antiques and this is the only 12" jenney sign i have ever seen in my life. Over a year one person whom talks negative about a business typically reaches atleast 500 people. so a little business advice maybe take some business classes thats first week knowledge never to talk negative about another person or business in public the results are always negative on your business. good luck hope business is well. and thanks for your opinion

I do not know if this will help any. I know this sign is right. This sign came out of the Jenny Offices. It does have four mounting holes. I do not know if there is one with three mounting holes. This a great example of why NO BODY SHOULD BY A NEW REPOP sign. In ten or twenty years nobody knows if it is real or not. If there were no repops no one would question this sign.

I am climbing out on a limb here, but after reading such nonsense I will put in my little research on this, This email came from a very seasoned collector who has been in this hobby collecting since the Oilzum lollipops were still in use.
Rick,
The sign is definitely a FAKE. I along with several other people have
been telling the kid the sign is not real. He told me I should mind my own
business, and I have never seen an original. He's a punk from Worcester.
-------- knows who he is from the local auctions, and says the kid
thinks he is an expert. He's been messing with signs for a couple years. So
when he says he's had the pump sign for 30 years he's lying. Do what ever
you can to spread the word. The sign is fake and the kid is a cheater and **** .

Mr. tjccafferty~

I'm not insulting you, I'm speaking the truth! You are insulting all of us by wasting our time with your fake sign. Did you ever stop to think if your sign was so rare why don't you have ANY BIDS!!!!
And if you are such an expert in the business and a huge collector and this is the only one you've seen? Where have you been, in a closet all of your life?

You stated I told you "that all the price guides have every sign made and all the guides just happen to have pictures of every rare sign"...that is completely false. I never said that, so there is another complete lie.

With all of the emails you've received about this sign being fake, you still think everyone is wrong and you're right?!
