This is my speculation...

I think that the winner was a shill bidder, and the loser was someone willing to spend too much.

Looking at auctions in their feedback, the winner is an antique dealer or collector who buys relatively cheap things like dishes and nick-nacks.

The loser apparently owns a Land Rover, buys giant fishing lure displays on a whim, and paid almost a grand for a Rodrigue Blue Dog print. Rodrigue is a famous Louisiana artist (I'm from there) and the seller is probably from there too to appreciate him.

It just seems unlikely that the winner would have gone for the pump, but I guess you never know...

I just bought a Hanger fresh pump like this, I'll sell it for HALF of that. WAIT, guess I should put it on ebay ! LOL

You know what..I was just at the the Pleasanton, Ca Good Guys Car Show this last weekend and there were probably 20 pumps just like this one for sale around $800-$900. I guess they should list them on ebay if they want that much for pumps in that same condition.

A couple months ago I picked up this same pump in about the same condition (farm fresh)good glass, face plates, add glass and no rust through for $100.00. These ppl are crazy!!!!!
