Texaco round signs and round Mobil sign

Look all repo and aged to me....

OKAY, IF THEY ARE REPRO'S WHAT ARE THEIR ORIGINS? I DON'T REMEMBER ANDE ROONEY MAKING SIGNS THIS SIZE. HOLES ONLY SEEM TO BE AT NOON AND 6. I'VE BEEN TOLD THESE ARE FAKES AS WELL.

Why would the grommets be right in the middle of the letters? I would guess repos.

I personally feel that anyone who makes repros, and does not mark them as such, should be drug out into the street and shot... It's really starting to get under my skin. The only motive for making a repro and not labelling it as such is DECEPTION... Ugh... The way of the world I guess...

The Mobil sign is definately a repro as the Pegasus is "leaning" too much forward, and Mobil used serif text on their signs in 1941.

The 9 inch Texaco and Mobiloil signs are known reproductions (or actually fantasy signs). The 8 inch Texaco is the right size for a lubester sign but most likely a repop. Note the "Reg T.M." under the star. In 1948, Texaco was using an "R" in a circle, not that old 1930's version.

The only one that might not be a fake is the 8 inch Texaco. I was told by a huge Texaco collector that the 8 inch has never been reproduced but if you go to enough different collections and collectors you will see stuff that was not supposed to be reproduced and there it is phony signs they have had made. I would not have bid on this one as it smells funny. My 2 cents. Ted

the texaco is a repop never made they also put 33 on the repop no smoking signs it's a pricey lesson need to buy books and do some homework i always email people buying repops
some thank me others say im lying and i just want to buy it they don't like the truth after the auction all i can do is try to help them no get burn't

I agree on the 8" Texaco lubester sign. It's doubtful that it's authentic. I've heard the same story on the 8" Texaco signs...that they weren't repopped. But this one looks fishy with the "Reg T.M." in that time frame. We could probably make a better judgement by personally examining the sign.

One problem is that new signs turn up that no one has seen before. A few years ago, I bought two Texaco green "T" 8" lubester sign with a "3-9-41" date. They were definitely genuine signs but none of the Texaco collectors I spoke with had ever seen one dated that early (most date after WWII).
