Looks good to me but I am not the expert. Never seen one with the rear legs going through the words before. Is this sign right or not?

I believe it to be real. I remembered seeing one before and sure enough, it was on this site. Pegasus posted a picture of his pump plate collection. http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum1/HTML/010721.html

I am sure this is an original pump plate from the west coast. They used black edge and lettering and the same pegasus for both Mobilgas and Mobilgas special, unlike the I.R. signs and the ones from the Magnolia areas.
Also, look at the "hooks" that are much sharper on this sign - another evidence it is an original sign from General Petroleum.

This is commonly known as the "dropped leg" Mobilgas Special pump plate. It's real and as mentioned above was used on the west coast (old General Petroleum marketing area). It's the only U.S. Mobil sign with the legs and letters overlapping. There just wasn't enough space to fit all the graphics on the 12" sign without some overlap. I have a foreign Sphinx Benzin Special sign with the same type overlap.
