Buy Now ask questions later, usually goes bad for me. Never saw this before. Is it a fresh to market repop? LOL

DO YOU HAVE THE ESSO COLLECTIBLES HANDBOOK? FUNNY THERE'S NO SIZE LISTED WITH THE ITEM. HE SAYS HE'S NEVER SEEN ANOTHET ONE LIKE IT. HE ALSO HAS 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT OTHERS SAY.

Guys:

It's only got 2 grommets! So it can't be very big.

Looks real 'new' - but who'd go to the trouble of making up something that small?

Later . . .

I looked through my copy of "The Esso Collectibles Handbook" dated 1998 by McIntyre and I did not see that sign.

I have also learned that the books are not all inclusive and not all of the info in the books is correct.

I do not know much about Esso so I have no idea if it is real or not.

I had one of those in the late 90's that was repo. Somebody sent it to me at the shop as a sample. Obviously, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's new Greg. Sorry man.

Well I got my first neg on ebay. That's better than $300 for a repop. Seller sent a very abusive email that I sent on to ebay. Live and learn.

He relisted it and slammed you pretty good in the process. It sounds like he knows it is a fake but is still trying for his $300.

Wow, you're not kidding he slammed him good...I would definitly turn that one over to ebay...referring to a guy's ebay tag and by his first name in the auction!! That can't be something ebay allows.

He got one. Hopefully my mistake will keep someone else from buying it. By naming me as the one who walked away, probably will keep the sign from selling for the buy now price.
The only way to respond to his email to me was:

Not having to buy a repop for $300 - 1 neg
Having you not accept pmt for cost incurred - Free
Reading your laughable response - Priceless

yeah.. but... lets take it back up to the top... we all make mistakes.. some costly. but, the wording was "buy now ask questions later".. better reverse that logic... signs especially are getting to be bad business... and by BAD i don't mean GOOD... be careful out there...

As an aggressive collector sometimes I take a calculated risk and hit a buy now then try and determine if it is good. Admitedly not always the smartest thing, but it has paid off.
This time, not so much.
The guys latest listing has been pulled from what I can tell.

Just received an email from the seller. The auction was pulled because of him going off on Greg, according to the seller. He accepts that the item is a fantasy item, but still says that he was ripped off by Greg because he wasn't paid his $300.00. I think the guy's got a few screws loose if he expects to get paid for a fraudulant item. But, that's just my opinion.

SCREW him! Greg's got to be one of the friendliest easy-going guys in this hobby. We deal annually through my auction and I can say that it is always a pleasure.

If any decent human being on this earth thought he had an original piece and you listed it that way and someone bought it and backed out... why not just ask the buyer to pay the relisting fees and re sell it. Let someone who wants it pay what they think it's worth. The guy shouldn't get mad because Greg bought with him saying it was a real piece when it wasn't!

The seller felt that once I bid I had the undying obligation to pay no matter what anyone said about the authenticity of the sign. I offered total compensation, including 3% for paypal. I can't post his response on this site, but let's just say he went off in a big way.

Greg, I wasn't trying to say you didn't offer but i had the same thing happen to me. I bought a cell phone off ebay and told the buyer i would come pick it up. He told me no pick ups after i bought it. He wanted $15 shipping. I told him he didn't say anything about not picking it up. He told me if i wanted to we both could leave positive feedback and walk away. After seeing he had bought 2 new AT&T phones and his listing said he was selling do to changing carriers i knew he was lying. He didn't want me to pick it up because i think the phone was junk. There are dishonest people out there.

Greg i would have done the samething you did if i was wearing your shoes.
