According to Warmans guide, this globe was worth 500-700 a couple years ago. Wow!

...the photos in most price guides are worth the cover price, and you can get a RELATIVE value for items, but listed prices are a crapshoot at best...this globe is worth what it brought and a little more...think about how many $500+ 12.5" Gulf globes you see, and figure this thing is 10 times rarer...it did have a little 'sickness' on the glass (bottle collectors know what I'm talking about) that the seller told me he tried to clean and it wouldn't come off...most likely from the cardboard box getting wet, leaching acid from the cardboard onto the face of the globe...

...now, if anyone out there has a DIESELECT globe for sale, drop me a line...I'm lookin' one...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I wouldn't have guessed that globe to go near that high. Look at the bidders... from $750 up was just 2 guys. I would guess it was a bidders war between 2 gulf guys.

Why can I see the high bidders user ID? I thought that wasn't possible over $200??

Jarvis,
You got that right. "Bidder 8" bid no less than 7 times in the last couple of minutes. If the winner, "Bidder 7", would have just slammed it at the end, he probably would have saved at least $600. Stupidity!!

TeeTee,
You can still see only the high bidder's ID at the end of the auction. I assume that eBay's logic is if they hide the rest of the bidders ID's, they can prevent fraud like bogus second chance offers and, of course, off-eBay sale of items!! In the process, they can kill two birds with one stone.

Paul
