I think ebay keeps updating **** , my question is: I used to be able to search "gas pump" and that is all I got, now I get everything. I have refined search in the advanced search section but does not seem to help. What do you guys do to get around this?

ALOT OF PEOPLE WHO SELL ANYTHING CLOSELY RELATED TO "GAS PUMPS" WILL USE THAT TERM IN THEIR CAN, SIGN, MAP, GLOBES OR WHATEVER PETRO RELATED ITEMS THEY SELL. IT HELPS THEM COVER MORE AREA AND BROADEN THEIR RESULTS.

Doc, That really agrevates me when people sell a can and put gas pump and globe and map in there desription! If i wanted a can i would search for it. I wish those toys would stay under toys because again if i wanted a toy gas pump i would search for one.
I keep getting a new style page that i keep opt. out of and it keeps going back to. Can't ebay just leave style of page alone! My listing style keeps going to a gallery and i have to switch that back also. Ebay is really went down hill and because they have such a foot hold on online auctions it will be hard for anyone else to take them out.

Yeah, and their stock has really gone south too,,,,from $58 to $18, in 3 years....

I'm with you on that new style page they keep trying to push (BETA). I hope their stock prices tell them something and they fix it but I'm not holding my breath.
I've got no answers to getting around those cluttered searches, I guess I've just been putting up with it! Maybe the wrong thing to do. I wish they'd come up with a suggestion box!

They have a feedback forum for the general public, go to their site map and go to feedback forum you will find a place for that.
They encourage feedback ( suggestions)..

Maybe when their stock drops to $.75 will they start to change for the better.
Just like the Big 3 auto makers, they priced themselves out of the market & now they want the Gov. to bail them out. If they can't increase the fuel mileage, decrease the total cost of the vehicle. Remember when the Beetle hit the market ? Plain Jane with Great fuel mileage & most everyone could work on it.

Phil, I've been using their Beta format for months and although I liked the "old way" much better, I'd recommend you start using and getting familiar with this. I believe, come February, you will have NO choice to 'opt out".

Oh well, I guess we will get used to it. I must have typed something I should not have in my first post, if I did I apologize for the mistake.

I apologize Phil. To anser your original question, this also happened to me months ago so I may not have all the facts right. When ebay started using the new format in an experimental way, I had GLOBES for example in my Favorites. One day, the gasoline globes would be there, the next I'd have 10,000 "Globes". Snow globes, globe chandelers (?), etc. I'd delete my Favorites and start over. It might go a few more days and the same thing would happen again. It finally quit. So, I'm guessing that ebay is "fine tuning" their upcoming changeover to Beta and this may be what is causing your problem.

Gary, I got your first answer. I think I was still steaming yesterday morning when I typed this is, that is why the asteriks might be there. That's what I was concerened about.

some starting pointers for personal searches:

we save our own various custom designed searches in our desk top favorites [not ebays] and have very few problems ..

we start by using this particular search form:

http://sea rch.ebay.com/ws/search/Adv...&pfid=&satitle=

note: do not ever, ever check the... Search title and description box

next in the keyword box insert your... specific required interest or interests such as follows:

(gas pump,gas pumps,)

or if you would like to broaden your looksee... then try this:

(lens,lenses,globe,globes,) +gas pump

plus maybe a similar but seperate search if desired that states the plural... gas pumps rather than singular

then in the... exclude these words box, insert the undesirables like:

fuel toy toys can cans sign signs map maps egg eggheads

you must do both these boxes exactly as shown above noting all brackets & punctuation etc, etc .. try it folks... you might even like it!
