I think a Mistake of 85.00 is a bunch of beans . I can see an estimate being off by 5.00 or maybe a little more but off by 85.00 is a little hard to swallow. I say he found someone that will give him more money for the Item and he's highjacking you for the increase, get your money back and then write it up in the feedback. Just My 2 cents

I would log onto some shipping websites like ups, fed ex, and usps. Enter your zip code and the sellers. Use dimensions that you think fit what you bought and the weight. This should tell you a pretty good idea of what shipping should cost. I just had two snowboards shipped from florida off of ebay. Seller claimed 86.00 to ship them, once the usps dropped them off, the sticker on it said 22.50.

Maybe the seller is getting an inacurate quote, or not getting one at all and guessing. Maybe the seller just checked with one shipper, sometimes prices will vary lots between shippers. A couple ideas for you anyway.

seller may have taken the item to one of the pack and ship places,

I can ship a 6 foot sign cross coutry for $85 using some shipping companies. So unless your item is HUGE I would get the seller on the phone to discuss.

According to E-bay . . .

Winning an E-bay auction is a 'Binding contract'.

If he quoted you a S&H price in the auction - then he is bound to honor that price.

If so, make him send it. It's not your problem he is less than compentent getting an accurate price.

Later . . .

Jim

In Micks first thread he mentions that the guy said the shipping would be AROUND $95,,,maybe around and a firm $95 is different..?? Maybe thats his way out ?? It's easy to ask him to prove to you thats it is $85 more, ask him for weight and dimmensions and the shipper and do your own calculations .. Just my nickels worth !

Mick,

I agree with Jim. I would use yours and his zip code, log onto shippers web site and calculate shipping yourself. Also, ask him what the item weighs, dimensions and means he will use to ship. I would get his phone number and talk to him directly, a winning bid is a binding contract. I have been down this road also, had to get nasty and get ebay involved. Hope it works out.

Phil

Thanks, Phil

I had a guy quote $100 shipping for a 42 inch sign. After I bought it he said they now wanted $125 to ship. I thought the $100 was high but thought if he does it right I could live with it. I've had the same size sign shipped for $75 and less. Anyway I wanted the sign so gave in. I asked him to wrap sign because he was going to plywood it. He used a dirty thin blanket for the center and put one layer of paper towel on the sides. He screwed the sides together and 5 or 6 of the screws broke off and worked their way down the sign. When I contacted him, he basically said tough. This is someone who sells a lot of car items. He won't sell anything else to me!!

well seller refunded my money after a phone conversation in which he told me"shipping will not happen.go ahead and take it up with ebay"since the item was not a "real" petro item i just let it go.item was 130184750953.since a certain oldgasser(who shall remain nameless, although he bears an uncany resemblence to a certain furry, four legged animal i had to deal with over the summer that was digging under my pumps)was tweaking me a bit, i feel an explanation is in order.you see,my wife has this thing about symetry.and when she told me i could get another to put on the other side of the china cabinet i jumped on it.figure if anything its a very prominent place to display another of my original globes.at least until i can restore an original pump or 2.anyway i will take said oldgassers very wise advice and use the refund to buy a genuine article.thanks for all the help and advice!mick ps also left negative feedback and will probably receive same, but oh well,i know who is right and who is wrong

Everyone should keep a lookout for when this is relisted and see what he puts for shipping costs. If he isnt honest about it, I can imagine a few questions being asked about shipping. Maybe more than a few.
