Been collecting for 14+ years, I read this site once every morning and once every evening but do not post that often until this evening . Here's my concern, Has anybody questioned Ebay auction # 390013382994. Mentions in the ad that the makers name is on the bottom right but doesn't spell it out in the ad (ebay delets high resolution photos in completed ads to supposedly save space????????? ). Anyway, No grommets but yet perfect porcelain where they should be, and a beat up backside, scored, scratchey black as typical of most if not all fudged repos we have all viewed and talked about here on this very site, is this sign (used on one side but N.O.S. on the other? ) but had no grommets installed , whats the deal? Any comments ????????????

...the maker's name showed up clearly when I scrolled down to the ninth photo down, it says 'KOBENHAVNS EMALJEWARK'...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I guess thats my point, in a week or so the photos will be gone. What happens when the buyers gets the sign and maybe does some research. The pics in the ad will not be there to compare to, and of course the makers name is not written in the original ad, only photographed. At this early point I will not express my full opinion on this sign but lets just ask, if I had the money to publish a book would you believe everything you read ? M

High resolution pictures , "image shack" etc etc do not stay on Ebay for more than a week or two, as stated Ebay says they require to much "space" to save for any reasonable length of time, possibly another one of their games. I am not the buyer looking for an opinion on value but who says the actual buyer is educated enough to save the pics to his own computer in the first place? M ...........10:05 est ,just noticed the edited response above, which is my point! By the time the buyer recieves the sign or discovers later on the photos may not be available for comparison therefore they would have no real photos to compare to, only whats verbally stated in the ad. Maybe an honest 90 day return policy would be better than a 24 hour time frame! ************ad also states you must notify him within 24 hours with your concerns for a 100% return******** M

I believe it's the server that hosts the images that removes them, not ebay. You can go to any number of auctions over a month or more old and still see the item.

...the photos posted on this auction were not listed using eBay's picture hosting, so eBay has nothing to do with their deletion...this auction was listed using a template and an independent photo hosting service...the seller can delete the photos whenever they please, or leave them there indefinitely...

In my opinion, that sign is a fantasy piece... Really pretty, but fantasy nonetheless.

I am investigating this sign in Scandinavia, via a collector with more than 600 signs. He has contacts with Danish sign experts. This may take a day or two...

I have also received a picture of a Swedish FISK sign very close to the one on Ebay, but made by another Danish sign factory. Will show this soon.

Hello all,
I received an answer from the Danish sign collector/expert that really tells it all. I have translated it to the best of my knowledge. The first picture is the sign on ebay, and the second is a Swedish version, similar to the sign in the book spoken about in the text below - made with another technique.

Sign on ebay:

We speak of an original FISK porcelain sign used in Denmark. I have bought THIS very sign myself from a garage on Fyn in Denmark, 25 years ago. In 1994 I sold it to xxxx whom you know, and he must have sold it in the US.

The sign is manufactured by Köbenhavns Emaljevaerk by German porcelain specialists. The factory started with this name in 1931 and used it until 1948, when they became "Ravnholm Emaljevaerk", until 1975.
All work was done with "stencils" (templates) to keep costs down and profit up. This is the reason that this sign "FISK Air Flight" is not as crisp as the sign in my book "Gadens Blikfang" p.155" which is made with a technique called "burn in transfer" (I am very uncertain about this translation/Claes).

Air Flight on this sign, mean advertising a "Baloon Tire". English expressions were very popular in Denmark in the mid 20s to early 30s. The second sign in my book (not shown) is made in 1934 and therefor has the wording "FISK Auto Gummi".
Best regards,
John Juhler Hansen

Picture of the Swedish sign, with another text "Auto Ringar", Ringar being an old expression for tires in Sweden.

Best regards,
Claes
