I saw the Texaco door stop referred to as a "fantasy" piece. I thought they really did make them, but there were just tons of repros out there. Anyone know for sure? There is one in Anderton's "Encyclopedia of Petroliana"...

A Genuine Texaco doorstop looks like a rubber or wooden wedge, or a brake rotor, or abrick, or a tin of nuts and bolts or a gallon of AntiFreeze..etc..etc..

I'd like to point out that these fantasy Texaco door stops were available at swap meets as far back as 20-25 years ago. Seems like every other booth had them sitting around for just a few bucks. The same goes for cast iron toys. There was a lot of them being reproduced back then.

Bummer. I had one that I could've sworn was real. Casting looks better than asian stuff, paint didn't flouresce under blacklight, and it had a 1927 date stenciled on back. Oh well...
