Hi guys, sotty this is so late, but I'm finally getting around to building an electrolysis paint remover. One simple question, how thick or what gauge is the stainless steel? Thanks in advance for the help.

I remember when I first presented this to Old gasers in Jan 2003 and everyone said, What the heck are you talking about? I am glad to see it is catching on as an alternative method for removing rust. Visitors think I am a Dr. Frankentstein when the see my vat brewing.

Bob, I just made me one of these deals. I used 18 gauge stainless because that's what I already had. Being this is a sacrificial piece I really don't think thickness is too important. I would guess though that thicker would increae the life.
Neat post guys, THANKS!

Let me add to this that the charger must be a manual charger in that is does not automatically shut off. I tested many chargers with no luck and finally did a little think and bought a non-auto shut off version and it worked AWESOME...

I have used this method many times before. BUT this time the guy painted the pump with paint they use on fire trucks. It will not remove the paint. It is enamel paint. Anyting I can do. I am ready to re-paint this pump.

Thanks
Tyler

I got mine from Farmer Jacks but have seen it in Krogers.. I think any large store should have it...

It should be in the detergent aisle, It's used for washing clothes....

Hope this helps....

I found mine at the local food store. If you can't find any, let me know I can send ya some. It's $2.00 for a box of it. You should be able to find it.

I too used the washing soda for convience. But have since been using just baking soda and laundry detergent. Baking soda is cheap I use half a small box in my 55 gallon setup and about 2 cups detergent. Stir it up good first. Larry

What amperage do you guys normally do this at? I just built my own setup, but its working VERY slowly. I currently have it on "regular battery" on 15A manual charge. My charger also has "deep cyle battery" and 2a/15a/110a (engine start) charging settings.

Thanks

I've got a skin in now. Charger is on about 12-14 amps.. Thats plenty.

I've used anywhere from 2-3 amps to 15 amps, leaving the charger on the 15 amp setting..

it's working good right now.. Start it and go do something else, if ya watch it work it seems to take forever...LOL
