I got to talking with my wife about how they made globe lens’s back in the 1920-30’s?
I am pretty sure that the new reproductions are all screen printed and then baked or slumped to shape, but how did they do it wayyyyyyy back when?

Nothing has really changed in 100 years from what I understand. The frits that are screned on to the lenses are finer today.

As a new member, I've gone back and looked at previous posts to try to catch up and to see all the neat stuff and usefull info I've missed. There was a previous thread that discussed this. There is a search feature located in one of the bands above, so just click on 'search', type the subject in the box and all previous posts that deal with that subject will come up. the words you typed in will even be hilighted in yellow in each post. I'm not sure, but you may have to do a search in each forum title. I just did this last nigh tfor a topic. Hope this helps.

Hi Dave - I have searched this and I must be missing something - that is why I posted a new subject - if someone finds an old post like this please post a link to it.
Doc - I fixed the post question - lol - I was up to late when I posted this - that is what 28 hours awake will do to you...
I did learn that you can usually use a lead test kit to test if a lens is original. - that was cool.

Travis, Was it a 22 or 45 Lead Test @ 100yds ! Would be less expensive to use Clay targets.

Travis,
That's true about the lead test, unless old paint or frit was used... Other analysis methods also exist for paint and frit, but again, if old materials are used, a dishonest person can still make a fake that will pass those tests.

Travis , i had to do part of my thesis on a graphic art process when I attended Virginia Commonwealth U back in the sixties . I also used to do screen printing. I used to do note books coffee mugs and a lot of "Bulk stuff" I'll be glad to mail you drawings for doing lenses and shirts for that matter . You can let me know . Silk screening actually goes back to the ancient Chinese provinces. Ed Shaver

Look at t-way graphics post history and you'll find the discussion on p.40. I knew I'd read it last night somewhere.
