Just scored on a 36B Clock Face but the top is bent down on one side where the ad glass fits. Nothing is cracked or broken on the top right now. Is there a way to bend this top back without ruining it? I thought about heating it before trying to tap it back out. Any other suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Mike

NOT REALLY FAMILIAR WITH HOW OR WHAT YOUR 36B TOP IS MADE OF, BUT IF IT'S A CAST OF SOME KIND I THINK HEATING IT AND WHACKING IT MIGHT CAUSE SOME TROUBLE. LET'S SEE WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY....MAYBE WE BOTH CAN LEARN SOMETHING HERE!

Hey Hubba, this was a trash pile score too!! Also in the trash pile was a G&B 70 like the one in Jack's book pg. 181. Good external sight glass. Still gotta dig some more. The man says there's probably 8 or 10 pumps in the old dump. Best of all they're FREE!!

ive done some of this straightening before WITH LUCK! but id like to have a few secrets/tips myself incase i find a dump filled with FREE pumps & i need to do some straightening!!!
i once used a press & another time i tap tap tap-er-ooed (BFH) it straight.

one tip is start on the side of the dent, a little at a time. DONT be pounding the center (deepest part) out like like its a piece of sheetmetal! i had mine on a hard surface & studied the operation out awhile then i just started pounding a little at a time from the side of the damage. i was eventually using a BFH & it came out sm00000th & nice but not perfect! i quit while i was ahead. a low spot is easy to fill! a crack is harder! a friend of mine used heat with luck on some potmetal.

36-B top is going to be tough! tooooooo many steps & edges. id try heat & tap tap tap or a press & it may come right into shape!?!?!

how does it fit the pump? post a picture of the damage. someone will know what it takes!!!

Mike, The 36B tops seem to bend down in the middle of the ad glass. I have straightened several with perfect results. I use a couple of pieces of heavy of flat stock and sandwich the part I want to straighten between the flat stock and use a C-clamp to apply a slow force. Do not use a hammer and most times get by without heat. Hope that helps, Tom.

Thanks everyone, I think it will come out good. I'll take some before and after photos and post them later.

Well, the pump dump didn't turn up anything real rare. I got a couple Gilbarco 996's with the Gilbarco 70 and Tokheim 36BDP clock face. It took 3 evenings to saw and chisel out a water oak that had claimed the 36B. Lot of hard work, rough but restorable. One door for the 70 was trash. Any leads on finding one is greatly appreciated. Does anyone else go through this much trouble to save an old pump?

Almost forgot, there were 3 visibles but the owner sold them 2 years ago.You just never know where you'll find these old pumps. I've driven by that farm for years and never knew. I actually bought one 996 there 5 years ago and the old farmer said there weren't any more pumps. Little did I know a few hundred feet away there were plenty. These old farmers are funny.
