looks to be a plastic flame for the top of a sign.i could be wrong, but i think that the flames were not meant to be on a pump, but may have been used occasionall cause they could be?

Thanks guys.....
The ad said it didn't have any chips, cracks, etc and was in really good shape. What would something like this be worth?

They commonly went on top the tall lollipop type Standard signs and the plastics that I've seen sell, brought from $150 to $400, depending on condition. I've heard that they're considerably cheaper at gas/oil shows? Any help here?? I've added a pic of the sign it goes on!

That's helps a lot. Really appreciate the responses. It had a Buy It Now price of $189 on it with a shipping price of $20, so looks like I didn't get hurt at $209. Plus I thought it looked cool anyway.
Thanks again!

Should have a 5" metal ring on base & were not used on pumps [except on ebay]. IF there is no damage or fading, your OK.

Thanks Dick. Appreciate the info. According to the seller it is not cracked, faded, chipped, etc. I guess I'll find out for sure when it shows up. Hopefully it doesn't get damaged in shipping.
I'm assuming it would have been lit up ?

Darn !! I looked at that last night and almost bought it. I decided to think about it for a day as I wasn't sure how much it was worth. Good score !

Standard and its affiliates Pan-Am and UTOCO started using the GLASS flames when Standard switched to the "torch and oval" logo in 1946-47. The plastic version came about in the mid-50's. When the affiliate branded stations were rebranded to American starting in 1961 the sign globes were eliminated. They remained in use at many Standard stations for many years. The glass version sells in the $450-650 range. The plastic version sells in the $150-250 range. I bought a very nice one at an Aumann auction 3 or 4 years ago for $75.
Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros. http://www.lastgas15.com/
