I have a globe lens that has 3 notches for a glass body, they are at 3-9-12, not the usual 4-8-12, it's a Canadian Irving Oil Co.( Primrose) 13-1/2" lense..any help is appreciated,,I currently have it in a metal body..What I need to know is what style of lense is it, ( Gill, Hull, etc????) It went along with this tin and oil bottle rack [This message has been edited by Wes Hague (edited 01-04-2008).] [This message has been edited by Wes Hague (edited 01-04-2008).] [This message has been edited by Wes Hague (edited 01-04-2008).] [This message has been edited by Wes Hague (edited 01-04-2008).]

I cant find Irving or a reference to your globe in the Benjamin book. The size and notches would indicate that it fits a capco, or Hull. Gills have no notches. The location of the notches is unusual. Globes have been found with notches at 12 4 and 8 as well as 3 6 and 9, but I do not see any reference to your configuration. Hope this helps. Cool looking globe.

Thanks, you know I think I heard that word "Balcrank" before, that could quite possibly be it. I sent Lonnie an email asking him, he hasn't replied yet.

Posting this for Scott Benjamin of www,gasglobes.com
"I have seen on very rare occasion inserts with three notches at 3,9 and 6 and also 3,9 and an indentation at 12-not really a full notch. I also have seen glass frames over the years with holes at all four places like 3,6,9 and 12. Once a saw a Texaco globe with a notch at 6 o'clock. What does this mean? Obviously there was a company that made special frames for these inserts most likely in the very early 1930s or late 1920s. Cincinnati Ballcrank made the Ballcrank inserts and glass frames in the late 1920s and early 1930s, which have notches at 4,8 and 12. What I do know is that these Primrose inserts were not for capco as they are too early and would not fit anyway. I doubt that Hull made these as they only made inserts with notches at 3 and 9 or the company that made the banded glass-no notches. So these were special made by either Cincinnati Ballcrank or some other unknown company. Scott Benjamin"
Thanks for the info, Scott
