Try Gaspumpheaven.com IF they don't have them, take the pump to your local sheet metal shop so they can roll & fit to frame. db

i'll give them a try today,if not i'll try other options, can you tell me if there is another access door in the skins as mine has a hand pump i guess for back up or prime on the right side inside of frame (while facing the cast doors) also missing dome or cap that goes into cast iron top is this just a snap in tin, can't realy tell what goes there thanks laroy

Where the pump handle would be inserted it would have a small circular cover with a bolt at top so it could swing out of the way. The very top piece is Cast Iron & was Not bolted on, quite a few guys have had near misses with the lid falling off when moving]. I don't know of anyone making that top, even in alum.

Laroy, Here is a link to the top you need at gaspumpheaven: http://www.gaspumpheaven.com/GPH/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2070I believe there was a bolt that came up from the jar lid and went through the top, just like a model 83...the bolt might have sheered-off on yours...take a good look. As for the door, it is not a round door with a bolt at the top, it is a long, skinny door...approx. four inches by twelve inches long. Originally it was hinged with some very neat-looking hinges...you're going to have to find something that will work for that. I have often found antique-looking hinges at antique salvage yards. The door closed and latched with a cabinet-style lock (the same style as on the cast double door that is on your pump). They still make this style of lock, but you have to search...if you can't find one give me a call and I can get you one up here. With your pump, I would guess they didn't use the hand crank much as it was air-operated as well. If the skins are not the same as a Boyle Dayton 83, then nobody makes them and you're going to have to have them rolled...take both the top and bottom diameter and go to a competent metal fabrication place...it should be quite reasonble to have them rolled...around here they charge me about $100 a set. Give me a call if you have any more questions. Good luck! EDIT: The more I look at that top at gaspumpheaven, the more I think it'll work, but it's not exact. I have had them with both the pressed steel top and the cast top like Dick said. The pressed top is very similar to the 83, but it is a little "flatter". But the top at gaspumpheaven will work.

Sorry, but I disagree. The Bonnet on a 74 is quite a bit different than the bonnet for the 83/87. The 74 has 2 cast iron pillars that bolt to the bonnet, then there is a 2nd cast iron lid that just sits on the top. In the 1st pump book it's on page 129 [Blue pump] & in the new book it's on page 111 [bottom right 2 pictures]. The 74 has a double door on the front of pump & was air operated most of the time.

Some of the BD pumps had a cast iron cap that bolted to pump skin to cover the pump shaft.

thanks for info you guys, i talked to a sheet metal place and they thought they could roll some skins. i'll take my extra 83 skins to them as the pump is darn heavy, the beltline and base are same diameter as 83-- just 5" shorter overall, because of about a 9" beltline casting on 74. This also gives me a couple option on hand pump door. The very top is about a 14" opening on the cast iron top that is double bracketed to the belt line, so i'll have to figure something out there. If i can't find original-- maybe a good chrome hubcap-- LOL laroy

Laroy's pump doesn't have a shaft coming out of the skins as other Boyle Daytons (and Rapidaytons) have. His is a piston, back-and-forth style pump, so the round door wouldn't have worked. I'm wondering if the 74's that I've seen with the sheet metal top were replaced due to the cast iron one falling off/being lost?? If so, it fit/fits pretty danged good. That's what I'd do if I didn't have the cast iron top...the general shape is basically the same.
