I have a guy telling me about a pump he wants to sell. I have not seen the pump but I am just going by his description of the pump. The pump is an Erie and has two sight glasses coming out of the top on each side and also has a raised area in the center where a bulb would go. Pump has vertical ribbing in the doors and sides. Looking at Jack's book I believe this pump to be an Erie 90 series model and is missing the glass top. My question is anyone making repo tops for these pumps?? Finding a good original would be near impossible. Also what would the value of one of these pumps be without a top?? The pump is suppose to be straight with no rust issues.

Sorry no tops are being made and there are lots of pumps without the tops out there. Dick Bennett lucked into one a few years ago. Maybe he will post pictures of that pump. ------------------ Scott Wright- http://www.frontrangegas.com/powerine.htm

Keitha: Don't worry about the glass top. You'll probably never find one for sale by itself. Only with a pump and even then - they command BIG BUCKS! As long as you have the sheetmetal top (below) that surrounds the siteglass units, you're golden. You can then mount the globe of your choice and have a great Art Deco pump for your collection. Price depends on condition . . . but if the top is there along with both sight glass units and spinners, and the sheetmetal is good, I'd say anywhere from $900.00 to $1,300.00 depending on your part of the USA. I have just picked up one of these. Mine is a cut71 but has the addglass doors and base like the 91. No glass top but very nice shape. It has 1 coat of Gulf orange over its factory red. How common are these pumps? This is the 1st I've found in SW Wisconsin were every other pump is a 39 short. I do need the small piece of tin that covers the top of the hose side. I'm not sure how tough it will be to find one. It's fast becoming one of my favorites.Terry

Well as I understand it the pump does not have the metal part of the top either. Just has the sight glasses coming out of the top and maybe the riser for the globe. Nothing else. Looks like SOL on a nice pump. I hate that.

I got a few of the tops that a guy made up a few years ago. He went to scoobie for the center section over the sight glass then to a tin guy to make up the side. They looked just list tways. It cost $100 for the top. ------------------ Scott Wright- http://www.frontrangegas.com/powerine.htm

Looked at the pump yesterday and it is an Erie 70 missing both the metal and glass part of the top.

gasgeezer:
From my experience, the price of a complete pump increases anywhere from 1K to 2.5K if it has the glass top.
The problem is getting someone to part with one. As I mentioned previously, You usually will only find the top already on a pump - so you're forced to buy the entire pump to get a top.
I've only seen one 'loose' top sell in the last 5 years. And I don't know what it went for.
Later . . .

Greg:
Sorry . . . I don't have any 'Extra' Sheet metal tops.
Check with Powerlube and see if he has any left from the batch he had made.
I do sell Stainless Steel kits to replace ALL the SS trim that goes on the sheet metal tops though. Check out the 'Stainless' section of our web site. Just 'Click' on the logo below.
Later . . .
