I have a Texaco globe, I know it is original as my dad was jobber and I got it 30 years ago to decorate my college room. He needles me about that as he sold all his others 20 years ago, probably for peanuts, darn. It is Texaco Star with Green T in center. Faceplates on each side, black rim on faceplates, white globe, probably 50's era as he was in business from 46-88. Don't really want to unpack it until I create my stand for it. Should I insure it? AT least does anyone have a ballpark figure? Thanks for your help.

If the body is hard plastic and the outline around the T is white the book value is between $250-350. Welcome to oldgas hope this helps. Richard

The outline of the t is white, but the globe itself seems to be a heavy solid white glass.
Thanks for replying.

Welcome!

You should definitely display such a fine piece. For my globe, I constructed a nice base for not all that much money that illuminates it very well.

I took a 9x12 walnut plaque from the trophy shop, and drilled a hole in the center sized just right to thread a 6" lamp nipple into the wood. I used a end mill (or router) to make a channel in the bottom of the plaque for the cord, going from the hole to one edge. I screwed down an aluminum globe ring (w/ nylon screws from ACE) and an electrical box cross bar. Screwed on the lamp nipple, and a porcelain socket, wired it up with an inline switch, and VOILA!

Insuring the globe is up to you. Might be a good idea - globes are really fragile, and even the most careful globe collectors sometimes break one.

Wes

Hi---look on the home page here, click "pump parts" choose a dealer, you'll see they sell the rings or holders for mounting your globe safely. Jim
