I purchased this sign a couple of months ago. I never even thought to ask myself why there were only 2 mounting holes. So today I am in a antique store and I see there is a metal lollipo stand for sale. I measured the 2 holes on the stand at the 11 and 1 o'clock positions. When I got home, I measured the distance between the holes on mine and they are the same. Can someone confirm to me that this was a lollipop sign? If so I made a hell of a find today.

If your sign is 2X, then you just answered your question.

Take your sign with you to make sure it fits & looks correct. Definately will take the sign with me just to make sure it fits correctly. The stand needs to be sandblasted and painted before displaying it. I will post pics when the stand has been painted and the sign mounted. Thanks .....

...maybe a dumb question, but is that a sign for the Canadian market?... Gulffiend, Why what makes you think this be a Canadian market sign? I don't think it differs any from the US issue signs. I live within 15 miles from the Ogdensburg NY border. It may have been a US sign that over the years made across the border.

...well, you're IN Canada - I figured you probably found it there...Veedol was marketed all over the world, and the logo looks like other foreign signs I've seen (larger lettering) - from what I know (admittedly not much) about Veedol curb signs in the US, the only Veedol curb signs were early black/orange/white 'lollipops' (that didn't have grommet holes; they were 'encased' in the frame) - then they went to tombstones - porcelain, then painted tin...all of the Veedol tombstone signs I am aware of (from the same era as the logo on your sign) are painted tin...seems like they would have continued to use the existing frames and just changed the signs when needed, instead of the added expense of new frames, bases and porcelain signage (instead of tin)...
...also, I've seen many of the other signs, but this is only the first or second sign like yours I've seen...it looks pretty cool, and should look great in the frame...
...if others out there have signs that dispute my limited understanding of Veedol signage, please post some pics and what you know about them so we can all learn something...

Thanks for the info Gulfiend. I never really looked that closely at other Veedol signs to spot the differences you have stated. We just don't see that mmany of these up North here and they look really cool. So when it came up at a sale I snatched it up. It was one of my first non Canadian oil/gas sign purchases along with a Lion oil flange sign at the same sale. It would be nice if someone could post the typical Veedol signs that you mention for comparison....
Veedol_AL1?
Thanks...

Hey guys, I agree with Gulfiend that it appears to have that "foreign" look to it. I am not sure what it is, but I think it has fatter letters for the Veedol font? I have seen a number of Veedol signs from overseas that has the same look. Again, can't really pin it down, but I think it is the letter thickness.
Nice sign,
Ryan

...I'd guess 1950's...post a pic of the frame/stand when you get it, before you paint it...

Well, I went on Monday to get the lolipop sign, but to my dismay it was only a 20" diameter. It looked like 24" when I saw it but didn't have a tape measure. The price was cheap so I bought it anyway. I work near a custom welding shop. I will see if they can replicate this ring in a 24" diameter and I will swap them out.
