The graphics\color line up against the rusty seam in a razor straight line almost as if it's a vinyl wrap. Would want to hold this one in my hand and feel the seam. I bought a fake Polly can once and the seam\graphics were very similar. If it's real it's a cool Hoosier related can!

I stared at those photos for quite a while looking for some tell tale mistake but my feeling is that puppy is legit. I believe I counted 8 different bidders at this point and that has been a positive indicator for me (in the past) that several others are confident in it as well.

That is a cool looking can. If people do feel it is real it should bring a pretty penny. It is surprising that the rust hasn't found it's way into the painted area, especially around the seam.

I dont believe it is real. the cans metal is in poor shape, but the label is too nice condition, and the edges at the seam are too sharp and unworn..looks like a vinyl wrap to me,,RD

I have gotten a couple of the fake vinyl wraps before and believe me, they are very good and very hard to tell but if you look at the seam picture, there is NO indication of a texture as there would be with a fake. From the overall looks and condition, plus the looks of the seam area, I'd be willing to bet a large sum that its for real! I've got to think that it would be a real treasure for some lucky collector!!!

I have to agree with bustermonty. I would want to hold this one in my hands. I don't know the seller and it appears he deals in tins but these wraps the guy does out here are impossible to tell with out having one in your hand. Might be able to get a full refund if a wrap but I wouldn't touch this one without holding it. My 2 cents. Ted

I haven't heard of vinyl wrap before. Is it a recreated label and glued or attached somehow to a can?

Yes and some of the best ones were hard to tell. A seller on Ebay who went by Earlyman34 sold some that looked real. They were applied to an old rusty can and then scuffed and dirtied up so it was hard to tell by looking, but you could always feel the edge by the seam. Of course by that time you already owned it.

If you want the Can don't be worried about taking the chance, but make sure to pay with paypal. Paypal and Ebay always covers the Buyers Hind End!!!!

I sure would want to hold this can as well. While there isn't always a company name on every can, I would think there would be some indication of the oil company's name who distributed the product other than it being a product of the U.S.A. Pat.

Well as of tonight I see it is up to $888.89 with 22 bidders. If any body wants to bid on it the last bidder is up to his limit. He is only 89 cents above the other bidder. $5.00 above his bid and if nobody else bids its yours.

I have never seen this company or can before. I am big into cans and have seen a lot of cans and never remember this one. I have seen other bogus cans that are one of a kind that are fantasy quarts. Shall be interesting to see the outcome on this one. Ted

I seem to remember this Ebay seller four or five years ago with some other fantasy/fake items. Anyone else remember the name? Pat

I think this can was on ebay before??? I pay strong prices for Indian cans, but would have wanted to hold this one. I have held some very good qt repo's wrapped in vinyl and unless you hold them and pick at the seam hard to tell. From across the pond put a redflag for up me on a US can, possible yes, But? Also my gut feeling was fake. IF it is real someone got a good buy but I doubt it.

I would rather miss out on a few GOOD deals than make 1 BIG MISTAKE. What threw me off was the Can Makers Mark [next to seam], I've never seen before.

I wish someone on here bought it so we could find out the verdict. We may never know. If the buyer isn't familiar with those vinyl wraps, he may set it on his display shelf and never know the difference or feel any reason to suspect otherwise.

After a quick search, I see a Belgian ebay seller sold the same can for about $75 a month ago. I couldn't make out if it is the exact same can, but it does have the same graphics. My rudimentary high school french tells me that this seller claims its original. Ebay #160350590046

There are several things that make it look like the same can. It looks like the 3 holes side by side on the lid are the same. Plus the scratches by the Indian's nose and chin in the white area are in both pictures. The scratch in the E in super is identical. There are numerous others visible that are the same also, no need to mention all of them. I don't think that proves it's authenticity, but it sure indicates a healthy profit from $75 to $1652.

This might be old news but I looked back at the feedback from the buyer to the seller of this can and he said "nice rare, vintage quart oil can." Apparently he was happy with his $1652 purchase. His name was mroilcanman. I don't know that it means he knows fake from real oil cans, but you would think it ought to. Still, the fact that no one here has one in their collection or has even seen one in person is unusual.
