Two Summers ago My son Jacob came across a Wayne 60 in the weeds at an old private junk yard it took several months with letters writen to finally track down the owner . the owner never responded to any of them . the other Day we noticed a salvage crew clearing out the yard they have a crusher and a shreader so I stoped by and asked them about the pump they said its still there and that I would have to talk to the care taker , so a few hours later I tracked down the caretaker and he said as far as he was concerened I could have it BUT! it was now in the hands of the guy that owens the salvage yard so as soon as I'm done writing this I will be off to meet with this guy and try to strike a deal. whats the old saying ( So close but yet so far) thats the way I feel right now . win or lose at least I'll have givin it my best shot . I'm saying my prays

WEll I got the Pump , another one saved from a Crusher , I got out to the site and asked the guy about it and he said he had talked to his boss on the phone and the boss wanted to know what the pump looked like and he told him if he put the pump on the pile he would not be able to see it , And the boss said if this guy wants that piece of sh.. he can have it so I now have a Wayne 60 wide Body in about a 8.5 condidtion no paint solid body just missing one face plate and a face plate bezzel Not bad for about 5hrs worth of work it was tough to get it out of where it was at thats for sure. Two years worth of letters Phone calls and knocking on doors but it finaly paid off and its now sitting in the shop. Life is good

Way to go Chris. I wonder how many nice pumps have been crushed in the past couple of years? Give the work crew a case of beer and send the boss a fifth with you name and phone to both and you may end up with more pumps. Richard

The forman that talked to his Boss for me came over when I was gutting the pump and said what are you going to do with this old thing and I told him that I like to restore them he then said "Well you should come up to our yard theres about four more on the pile but there not in this good of condition, the yard is about 270 miles north,I gave him my address and email and I told him to send me some pictures of them , at the price of fuel I will rely on pictures for now so there may be a few sitting at the scrap/salvage yards ya never know . I will try and get some pictures taken of the 60 real soon to post

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldnt let a thing like the cost of gas ruin my chances of possibly another 60. Heck, I go that many miles on a day hunting trip. You might get there and they may be trimline G&B's or newer, but you get there first!!!!!
I stopped into a place one day and asked about an A-38....The man said "I bet a hundred people have stopped and asked to buy that pump, but since today is our last day here I'm going to sell it to you, what will you give me for it?" We got the pump for $25.00...20 yrs ago.
I have also made arrangements over the phone only to have them sell to someone else thinking it was me. Hmmm....270 miles N. of ST. Clair.....nah, wouldn't do that to you....but there are folks who will.
Go get the stuff before Jodie gets it!!!!!
Joe

Nice story and Congrats. I agree with jkyocom....if the price is right, get up there and go see if you can find another four. If a Wayne 60 is worth $1000+ the price of gas would be cheap in comparison. good luck.

The going rate seems to be about $1400.00 for a wide 60.
1) 5 hours worth of work @ lets say $25 per hour.
2) fuel for at least 540 miles round trip....lets say 15 mpg = 36 gallons @ $3.50 per gallon equals $126.00
3) meals say $50.00
comes out to $301.00
from $1400 equals to $1099.00 to the good.
hummmmmm. even if you take the trip and come back with nothing you still came out ahead.
remember the old saying...
"the early bird gets the worm"
I would be on the road!!!!
just my 2 cents........

I look at it this way....if gas were say even as low as $2.00, you wouldn't think twice about going up there. So, if it's $3.50, it's costing an extra $1.50/gallon. If it's a 500 mile round trip, and you get 15MPG, that's about 35 gallons give or take. So in essence, the only difference is $52.50 between absolutely going & absolutely not going. It's like some of my employees complaining about the gas prices eating up their paycheck(granted, I realize it's high and it sucks)but I sat them down and we figured up how many miles a week they drive (they all live within 5 miles of the shop) and none are driving more than about 100 miles/week total. Out of all them, $15 was the highest extra a week it was costing over $2/gal.

Boy, it sounds like we are a bunch of gas collectors. Everyone chomping at the bit for you to get a find....Hey TX Pelican ...you call that work!!!! that is like a vacation to me.....better than electroshock therapy!!!
MMMMMMMM pump lobotomy!!!!

I say borrow your brother in-law's Toyota, Pack a couple of bologna sandwiches, fill up with some regular, and go bring the boys home. You can get 4 pumps in a Datsun bed , I am sure a Toyota will work too.
Just take lots of rope. I love getting those looks when you have a rediculously overpacked truckload of gas stuff.

I got thinking about it and I decided to call my buddy that lives within 25-35 miles from the site and see if he could stop by and give me a run down on what was there, The Forman told me he had 4 more ,But where they wayne 60's or just gas pumps , you know common stuff ? so When my Buddy calls me back we'll know. And no he is not a Collector But he does know what he's looking for He's just not into Gas and Oil ,so I don't have to worry about him ripping me off. Bruzer75 I don't own a digital camara but my son is coming home this weekend and he will take some shots and him or T-Way will post them for me . but believe me I'm checking it out .
