I do a lot of trading on Ebay and this morning I had a message that was disguised to look like it came thru Ebay and from someone that had supposedly sent money and not received the item! Curiosity grabbed me right away and I hit the respond button only to have a box pop up asking me to sign in with my password and a box that asks if you want internet explorer to remember the word? I quickly backed out of the window and copied the item number into ebays search engine and it came up with NO items found! This is obviously a way to gain access to passwords and eventually your account! I'm fairly safe in that I use an electronic number key in order to gain access and it changes numbers every 30 seconds but I'm sure the crooks are working on a way around it! My message is--BE VIGILANT and watch out for these guys! You never know when they'll pop up! Always be leery of anything that raises questions with you and investigate from somewhere other than the site they're directing you to. Last but not least--be sure to foreward those type emails to spoof@ebay.com Have a safe day!---KEVIN

IF message is NOT in "MY EBAY" it didn't come from ebay. Messages that are sent from ebay to your email WILL have your Name in the 1st line. ie: Mr. Richard Bennett, You will have to sign up for Pay Pal [or other online pay method], BEFORE you can sell on ebay. Ebay Staff
Responce; Dear Ebay, Stuff Pay Pal up your A$$. db LOL

I get the same messages also, but most of the time they end up in my Spam folder. I allways delete all emails from ebay, then I go to my ebay and check my messages.

Never click on any link in any email to a site where you have to login with a password. They can make the email and the fake Web site look perfectly real.
Login using your normal bookmark for eBay, your bank, Paypal or other important login site. Then look for the information mentioned in the email. If on eBay, it will be in your My eBay mail page.

Damn it db, quit holding back and let us know how you really feel about paypal! I'm tired of you "pussyfooting" around the subject, lol.
Now are you for it or against it? ROFLMAO
I haven't gotten one of those spam messages in a while, glad to see that the "losers" who send them are still trying to stay busy.

Thanks for the heads up. If you weren't thinking, it would be easy to just log in to see what it is about.

USUALLY I CAN TELL WHEN A FAKE EBAY EMAIL COMES IN. I JUST PLACE MY CURSOR OVER THE LINK THEY WANT YOU TO GO TO AND THE REAL ADDRESS SHOWS UP AT THE VERY BOTTOM EDGE OF MY PAGE...USUALLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EBAY. LET'S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!

Again--Foreward those types of things to spoof@ebay.com and they will investigate. I received an email from them within an hour of my sending it to them and they took my message and were investigating the links that these people obtain and were cutting them off. They also have a list of some very good tips for handling these things! Glad my message got out to as many of you as it did! If we're going to do ebay, we have to be on the watch!!!!

I JUST PLACE MY CURSOR OVER THE LINK THEY WANT YOU TO GO TO AND THE REAL ADDRESS SHOWS UP AT THE VERY BOTTOM EDGE OF MY PAGE...USUALLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EBAY. LET'S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! that does the job! Be careful when they disguise their address by *starting* with something legit, like, say "cgi.ebay.com.1000831289041.spammers.assclowns.419.com" - starts out okay, right? a lot of the spammers are getting pretty smart and stealing the correct graphics from the sites they wish to impersonate - I had a damn good Bank of America a few months ago. (Meanwhile, other spammers are content with the horrific design of "my name Barrister Governator Quiche McNnamdu Exquisite-Third, grandancestor isdied crashplane $40.200.600.trillion moves helping into out of country assistance yes bank account necessity giveing numbers to'ing our usses" - apparently Darwin hasn't been to Nigeria!) Remember, email return addresses are very trivially easy to forge, but website addresses are somewhat more difficult, so always look at the website address before typing your password.
