I have double sided signs like this 42 inch sign.Then i picked up this single sided one.Were the single sided signs mounted on the buildings??I have some old gas station books and all i can find is doubles.Any input is appreciated. Thanks TomD

Tom: I think the single sided signs like yours were used back to back in a hanging frame to appear as double-sided. The "Filling Station" ones of the same size were. These were used in the 1910's and 1920's.....Dale

yes dale is right...i have found them with 2 signs in the frame.
Wanted early tin litho signage. petro, farm, auto, etc.

Tom, Nice sign! I've got a pair like yours. They are bolted together with inch or so spacers. Scroll down through this thread and you'll see the sign hanging from a pole at an old TEXACO station.
