Hi Bob.....sorry to say that these signs are not originally from Mobil....The story goes goes that there was a large nos find of these in Canada however most of them seem to be coming out of Mo. ,,, who nows where they were made & who is behind it but they are made to decieve with the fake date... they are very heavy steel & porcelain, however the quality of the screening or stenciling is terrible....There has been discussions on this forum before about this same sign....I seen one guy from Mo. that had at least a 100 of these....Dt

i dont collect mobil items, but i know that "t-53" is a terrible word in our hobby. those pegasus signs can be found at almost any gas/oil/advertising/auto swap meet in the country!!!! YIKES...you can probally find a dozen or so on ebay right now

see me at Mason Dixon Gas, Spring Carlisle M114-115, and Hershey C4E-35.

Bob...
If you want to know more about what the guys are talking about? Go to the "search" area next to FAQ in the header. Type in "t-53 pegasus" and on the second page you will find the first of many discussions of this sign.

Hopefully you didn't pay too much for it and/or you can take it back to the seller, if you are so inclined?

I bought a bunch of old originals--texaco--iso vis-phillips 66-mobile key hole on original stand--some really nice old stuff and I guess i was overwhelmed because when he told me the t-53 was original I just said ok and put it in the pile...my fault--does anyone know the actual value of this sign as a repop?? I really don't think he knew any better..do we ever learn??? tks Bob

Does your sign have anyway to hang or mount [brackets on back or holes] ?
Ask the seller & your self "how was this sign used/displayed ?"
