Unbelievable.. These signs are fake. I hope nobody on here bid on them. There have been two of these on ebay lately. Both went for over 500$

Wow, thanks for the tip. Not being a GM collector I would have never guessed.

Other than the fact that you can buy one at hershey, carlisle etc for 30 bucks the guy is advertising them as from the 50's. The "For Economical Transportation" slogan is much earlier than that. Anything to help out and raise awareness.

Way too much repo stuff being made!!! I think before any sign company reproduces any signs they should consider making them with burned out dates in the metal. That way if anyone tries to pass them off as originals they will have to cut the date off the sign, thus reducing the value considerably...Dale
This could also be done on all the repro cans, too!!!

I am sure the guys making these repop signs could care less if it reduces the value of original signs considerably or even kills it all together as long as they can make a buck or two.
We have all talked about repops many times over and over and everyone knows that we need reproduction items but undated items is what separates reproduction sellers from flat out crooks!
Crooks is what i have an issue with! When someone is trying to sell undated items or making items that are not dated. I don't care if it's a "fantasy" piece or not... not everyone knows it wasn't never made. Make it simple DATE NEW STUFF!
Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

John--I'm pretty sure that everyone on this site agrees with you but how in the world do we make it happen? I brought up the idea of a book on repops several months back and it didn't take long to have it explained why its not feasible (costs, research, lawyers, etc) Maybe a web site devouted to repops??? I don't know either but it sure makes me mad to see people ripped off for their hard earned money! Worse than that is the problems created 50 years down the road when noone remembers that it was repoped!!! Whats the answer???---I wish I knew!!! I do know that if we stop discussing it, it won't get any better. Education is the key, its just how to go about it. Keep bringing those repops to the front boys--at least the Old Gas members won't get ripped off!!!
