How does the sheet metal skin attach to the pump? I will be restoring the Wayne 83 and need info.

I just check all my literature and I can't find anything on the Wayne 83. Is it an old pump for something that was made after the 80 in the 50s?

Apart from the machine screws up the side like Dick said, there shoul also be a 1/4-20 bolt on the top middle and bottom middle of the door-side skin. You'll probably have to look close...they usually are broken-off. I believe these were there to facilitate the skins being put on...with just these two bolts you could hold one half of the skins on while you wrestled with the other side. Sure helps in restorations. Hope that helps.

I forgot about the 1/4-20 bolt threaded into castings.
WAYNE 83 was made by the BOYLE DAYTON DIVISION of WAYNE PUMP & TANK CO. LOS ANGELES, CALIF.
BOYLE DAYTON also made the BD VIZO 83, although very similar the castings are different.
1 has a 3 pipe frame & other has a 4 pipe frame inside [I think BD is a 4 pipe].

My mistaske, I just never thought of the Boyle-Dayton as a Wayne pump. Both the 78 and the 83 were introduced by B/D around 1924 and I believe they are the only two B/D pumps that Wayne put their name on. BTW, The originators of B/D were Frank E. Dayton and Willis J. I have a Boyle Dayton that the plate says Wayne 79 on it. It doesn't have machine screws holding the two halve together just sheet metal screws. I think it's original that way? Ted.

I've had quite a few Boyle Daytons that had sheet metal screws up the sides by the time they found their way in to my shop. But I believe they all had machine screws originally. I'm sure if the skins were ever taken apart it was just easier to run sheet metal screws through the holes. Just my opinion, but when I've examined the skins closely, they've all looked as if they had machine screws originally.
