Hoping someone can shed some light on the popularity and collectable value of a 1930 gas station cash register. Of course the keys are labeled gas oil tires lube and so on. It is in working condition and I have the opertunity of buying it for $400. Are these hot items? Its a little out of my direction from restoring pumps, oil dispensers and collecting cans and containers, but Im toying around with the fact it would look great displayed. Once again, are these sought after? thanks, Roger

Sometimes. Lets use gas pupms as an example. A Wayne 60, will have more value than a Southwestern 45. I have two old cash registers here. they're kinda like Tok 39s though....

I have ads for National CRs and if they have the oil and gas that makes them a little special, but unless you are building a service station out back, and are also decorating the inside to make it look like the 40s or 50s, I wouldn't be adding it to my collection (if I had one).
I agree with Thunder. If someone offered it to me for $100.00 and I had an extra $100 to spare, I might buy it, but the same money put in a gas pump, sign, globe, oil can, will give you more satisfaction than a cash register. I wouldn't give $400 for any CR unless it was brass.
JMO (that's a new one, just my opinion).

Roger,

I just bought a McCaskey built in '40 or '41 strictly for gas stations for $75. It seemed to me that it would be a unique piece of history that not everyone had.

There was a site which I used to research this particular model before I bought it but the site went down within the past few weeks (more lost information as it seemed this individual was quite the historian on the McCaskey company).

So do your research and buy it if you like it.

I have one. IMO $400 is too high. Keep looking around if you really want one. You should be able to find one at least half the price of that one.

I had a CR that came from a 50-60's SIGNAL station earlier this year & gave it to another oldgas'r, because I didn't have room for it.

I agree w/ the rest.

I dont post much but I'm kind of confused on the advise being given to Roger on the cash register ? he doesn't mention a brand or provide a picture so it's a little hard (for me) to determine a value on this item.......I have several National cash registers 2 or 3 which are out of gas stations, I think these are a great petro collectible and as much as part of history as pumps, globes, signs, etc. If the one he mentions is anything like this one (below) I'd gladly pay $400 for it ! just my humble opinion !

BRASS...... For $400.00....... I couldnt get my money fast enough..... ROTFLMAO!!!!

The brass era, of just about everything, ended at about the same time as WWI. Roger. I think that it would be a great part of your collection, but I'm pretty sure that $400.00 is a bit high, for an old steel cash register. Get some pics though. There is always the possibility that you have something special.

As with a lot of items that someone is asking WHAT'S IT WORTH, w/o a picture or 2 it's hard to put a value on.

H1Humer's CR above would not have been found in 98% of mom/pop gas stations in the 30's-40's. Maybe in a FIRESTONE, GOODYEAR, PEP BOYS or other large volume service station only.

Well its certainly not a gem, but I have no picture other then the image of it on Craigslist that I dont mind sharing. Please go to Craigslist Reno Nevada and type in (1930's gas station cash register) you will see it and best advise me about it. Its less then 30minutes away from me and is still available. thanks guys. Roger
