Think this one has been hanging in his garage since 1970's? Think it's the real thing? Item number

I think it is a high quality repo myself. The Washington fonts are to small. Where is agentsteel, maybe he can shed some light on this.

Must be fake as it has only 2 bids and not going anywhere. Ted

oh goodness... that is an original sign that has been repainted. Was cut out of the original steel in the 1940s, then someone added #7 reflectors (5/16" size)... Washington used #5 size (1/2") so #7 is not authentic...

went for $760 or so, sounds fair to me, the sign is real (from 1943) but someone made some modifications well after the fact, with those reflectors... believe me I can recognize that repaint: that is Rustoleum Antique White on the front and Hunter Green on the back - close but no cigar for the original paint colors. Here is what an original-paint Washington looks like:

note somewhat grayer front, and a tad lighter back.

Thanks for the update agentsteel. I guess they would have been better off just leaving the thing alone rather than a face lift. LOL Ted

depends on the condition of the original - if it was an utter rustbucket then a repaint may have helped its cause; but to add the wrong size reflectors, yes that was a poor choice.
