I don't mean to hijack your topic, but thought this was a good place to share what I was ecstatic to find recently.
I collect Sunoco,so while walking through a local flea market with my mother recently,I came across an elderly woman who was selling wooden spoons. While my mom talked with her,I heard her mention she had a father who ran a gas station back in the 1940-50's-60's.
I stepped up into the converstaion and politley asked what brand.."....Sunoco"..she replied.
I asked if she had any photos or promo items from it,back in the day.She said she might have some photos, but will have to look.
I gave her my phone#,and she called me back a week later, saying that she did't find any photos or tidbits, but did find a white metal box way back in the attic that I might be interested in.She said her father removed it after the station changed hands, and stored it ever since."It held towels and cleaner" she spouted. She went on to say that she also found a second identical one next to it,along with a bag of hardware & brackets too.
I drove over to her house and upon seeing it all, offered her a price twice as much as what has been quoted here for each box,as I felt more then happy to pay that and felt these items justified it.
To say she was exciteded with my offer woulda been an understatement.
Below is what I found..I removed one of the gas grade charts to show what is underneath both.
