I have a pair of original hose guards that appear to be in very nice shape with very little or no pitting or pealing. However, they are covered with a couple layers of old paint. How can I remove the old paint without damaging the original chrome plating??

Aircraft stripper. Wear rubber gloves, glasses and a respirator outdoors. Then final rinse with hot soapy water. Buff or finish detail cleaning with 0000 Steel Wool. Be careful, it is very caustic but does a quick job. Larry

Before you resort to chemical warfare, just try blasting from the edges with an air hose, or better , dead on with a pressure washer, Chrome should stay on if it was done right....dodogas..wear gloves if you do it!!

A trick that I've used to remove paint from chrome pinball legs is cheap and fairly easy. Spray the area to be stripped with Easy-Off oven cleaner and seal the part in a plastic garbage bag and let sit overnight. The next day you just flush the paint off the chrome with a water hose.
